I love singles, but don't want one in a sportbike. Why?

1) They are buzzy at highway speeds. Some people think the ninjette is bad, but it's nowhere near the vibes of the singles that I've ridden had. More cylinders are smoother, inline fours are smooth as butter.

2) Singles are good for making low end torque, which is great. They aren't so good though at high rpm hp, which is what a lot of people want in a sportbike. Especially a small displacement sportbike.

3) IMO multi-cylinder engines feel more refined than singles. I'll pick the 'berg most of the time if I'm going on joyride, but for the daily commute the 300 is my choice almost every time.

My opinion is solely based on dirt bikes though, so maybe it would change if I rode a bike like the KTM 390. Haven't ridden a cbr 250, don't really care to.

BTW, I love the rear seat design.

Not so sure about the brakes however. Brakes on the 300 are adequate at best, and the brakes on the 390 don't look any better.

The front is a 4 piston on the KTM.

What about the service intervals, particularly the valve adjustments?

I think the RC390 looks damn sexy like most KTM bikes. Hopefully it comes to the US and will wait to see how it compares to the Ninja 300 and CBR 500R.

well with a single cylinder thumper engine I'd imagine them to be fairly long intervals in addition to being the easiest possible valve adjustment when it does come around.

edit: that duke 390 video looked fun as hell

damn, power to weight on that thing is pretty much the same as the N250 assuming the numbers are at the wheel rather than crank. not bad for a 200cc thumper, though I think I'll stick to wanting the rc390 over the 200 or an rc690 over that if they come out with one.

Does anyone know if it's been officially confirmed that there'll be a street version of this bike or is it just going to be a race bike (not street legal and only meant for the track)? I've read conflicting reports.

It's a street bike. There is a race only version that's specifically made for a cup series, which I don't think just anyone can buy that bike.

Went to the local dealer that sells KTM to ask about price and when they might get them. Guys there didn't even know the bike was in the works and tried to tell me I meant the Duke. I told them they might wanna google it since they sell the damn brand and left.

Useless.

It never fails. I always seem to know more about the products than those that sell them. And I don't even try that hard....

You'd think a salesperson would at least pay SOME attention to industry news.

To be fair it hasn't been "officially" announced yet, but still poor.

Realistically I didn't expect them to know price and such yet but I did expect them to at least have heard about it. Maybe that they're waiting for more info from KTM and would give me a call or something.

Those images of the 390 were leaked by a Canadian distributor so hopefully that's a good sign it will be available here and in the US.

Who wants to play guess the RC390 US MSRP?

$6999

I'd say 7 would be doable. Any more and you're getting real close to 600-1000 range.

600s don't come in under ten grand MSRP anymore.

recent write up with some decent action shots

http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bikes/2014-ktm-rc390/

"KTM says that the 2014 KTM RC390 will be available in the summer next year, with pricing set to be under €6,000. No word yet on availability in America, though somehow we doubt that we will see the machine in 2014."

^under 6000 euro doesn't give me a super warm fuzzy feeling ~ $8000 USD (<-- edit: fixed it) but then again they don't say how much under that the price will be.

time will tell, and it looks like I still have some time to save up a few bones

The relevant number isn't the price in Euros... it's the relative price compared to other bikes in Euros.

How much does the Ninjette cost in the EU? What about supersports?

lets just hope looking at it this way makes it cheaper in the US.

If the trend of ninja300 euro prices and US prices hold with the RC390 we should be able to expect a little price break, maybe even close to $1k.
So if one can be had for $7k USD I think that is reasonable.

Does it actually say something like "US release 2014"?

I see that it is on the KTM USA webpage but so are the 125 and 200 and they most likely will not come to USA so IDK?

I thought the same thing too but I don't know why they would have it on their US website if it wasn't coming.

I'm a bit skeptical too but I'll just save up and wait...and wait...and wait. LOL

It's taken from the "ECIMA 2013 Newsroom", to me it's just news...

As long as I won't see the RC390 along with the 1190 RC8 under the supersport tab, I'll think it's not annouced or available...

The relevant number isn't the price in Euros... it's the relative price compared to other bikes in Euros.

How much does the Ninjette cost in the EU? What about supersports?
Where I'm originally from the 250R was €5,900 new. I can't find the 300's price on the main dealer's site. (however the fact that the 300 falls between the posts, it's a class A2 bike that you can't take the A2 test on, so I'd say they sell **** all & it's a price on request type machine)

R6 is €12,750 brand new, Gixxer 750 is €14,550, Daytona 675 is €12,200 & Panigale R is €36k

It will be out end of 2014. KTM tend to put things on their website long before release date.

They did the same thing with the 1290.
