Z1R resto

I’m about done with my resto, just a few things left. I picked it up in 1980 as a salvage bike from an insurance liquidator, bike had 62 miles on it. I don’t know if it had been sold and wrecked that quickly or if it was on a demo ride, in any case someone had painted it black with hand painted gold pinstripes before it was totaled. I followed that theme when I repaired it, a few years later I wanted something with more flash hence the black, red, yellow paint. Eventually I resprayed it with the stock color, and this last fall started to restore it.

Very nice Z1R!

Been one of my favorite Kawasaki models.
I have an 18" front Z1R wheel on my '78 KZ650.

Is your Z1R a '78 or '80 model?

Ran into this one last Sunday at a meet.
My buddy Dave also just bought an '80 model Z1R.

Thanks,
Mine is a 78 (D1) around 17,000 made world wide, the 80's (D3) had a some things different and there were only about 3,300 made.
