Alright Ninjetters.....I'm very close to being back in the game again

Throw some favorites my way for bikes.

One thing I will say, no sport bikes or scooters, nothing like that. Not because I don't like them, but I won't buy them. I want something different.

I'm open to almost any other bike, but cruisers/standards are most likely the route I'm going to go.

Throw some goodies out there that I may be able to consider. The thing is, try to keep the new price under 12K (for anything over 8500 new I'll probably go used).

I am really curious to see suggestions.

Currently my list includes Triumph Scrambler, Kawi Vulcan 900 Custom/Classic, Triumph Bonnie, Harley 1200 Sportster (maybe), and the new Yami/Kawi retro bikes.

The MAIN thing is I have to be able to carry a passenger comfortably. That is the ONLY thing. And I do want to toss a windscreen on it in the winter, so it has to be able to do that part well as well.

If passenger carrying capability is priority #1, then you can't go wrong with Burgman 650.
Large seating area, comfortable seats, backrest for passenger, large underseat storage (fit two fullface helmets) so you don't need side luggage.

After owning over 50 different bikes of different types over the decades, Burgman 650 is my goto bike for carrying passenger and all the stuff the passenger want to bring along the ride.

Twist-n-go (no clutch) or button shifting is just a bonus when you get stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, especially when carrying a passenger.
The handling of the burgman 650 is similar to BMW boxer, majority of the weight is down low near the ground, which helps in fast cornering.
It's different than most other sport oriented motorcycle, think of it as a sleeper.
It surely has no problem keeping up or go faster in spirited rides with capable hands.
Triple digit speed capable, no problem beating 90% of the cars off the light and passing cars at highway speed.

Used Burgman 650 can easily be found under $4-5k, I currently have two of them, both purchased under $3k each, both under 8k miles when purchased back in 2016.
$35 annually to insure each.

Well, you can put a windshield on just about anything....

I'm loving my new-to-me 2012 Street Triple R. Great motor that sounds just awesome. If you care about better suspension get the R version. Note for carrying a passenger: 2013 and up have a low-slung exhaust. Mine has two big underseat cans.

I'd also look at the Yamaha nakeds... MT07 and 09, XSR 700 and 900.

Ducatis are.... well, Ducatis. Passion trumps practicality. Those bikes sure cost a lot for what you get.

But as I noted in your other thread, you really are describing a maxi scooter. I second the Burgman.

Don't know how much you want to spend or how new or old you want.

BMW classic K bikes (2 valves) and the later 4 valve bikes are getting older, but they're cheap, reliable, and fuel injected. They made them in 3 flavors: sport, touring, and standard (naked). And the K100 is on your bucket list!

Integrated factory panniers, top boxes, and tank bags are fairly plentiful on the used market.

Unlike most Japanese bikes, BMW still produces pretty much all the parts required to make their post-WWII bikes go and stop.

I've owned my '94 K75 (has 87k miles) since 2002. Gone through several tires, brake pads, a couple sets of alternator cush-drive monkey nuts, a couple of rear socks, several valve adjusts (easy), and a clutch cable.
Did it all myself - never been in the shop.

And shaft drive is nice!

Whatever you get, let us know!

I have owned three K75's (87 K75T, 91 K75RT & 90 K75S) and two K100's (85 K100 & 87 K100), they are definitely bikes that last, and cheap to purchase.
Bosch FI on those are just simply rock solid. Performance is somewhat meh, can be a bit top heavy, but handling is still much better than most.

Consider their age, even the mid 90's models would have brake lines that are nearly 25 y-o (regardless of mileage).
When that ABS pump goes kaput, changing out the brake line, rebuilding the brake calipers will be PITA.
Early model years tend to have electronic problems with circuits in the headlight unit.
Carrying a passenger on them tend to get excessive fork dive, with 25 y-o fork seals, that can easily cause fork oil to seep out, onto brake calipers, ruin the brake caliper seals, brake pads, etc.. I know because I've done them.

Integrated luggage are nice, but add overall width to the bike.
With their age, parts are increasingly becoming difficult to get, genuine BMW parts are never cheap.
I still have a few spare side panels, wheels & brake pads in my basement. Likely sell them to Beemer Boneyard for cheap next time I visit them.

BTW, I sold my 87 K100 to a co-worker of mine years ago, he used to ride that thing everywhere along the East coast, until one day, 20+ y-o pressurized fuel line bursted while riding, caught fire while riding. :

Since that incident, I haven't purchased another 80's or 90's BMW K-bike.
As much as I like to buy cheap, reliable bikes, I hate to experience that, especially carrying a passenger.

Thanks for jogging my memory: I did w replace all my coolant, vacuum, and fuel hoses a few years w ago as a preventive measure.

Your suggestion to consider a Burgman is a good one.
I wouldn't mind one, myself.

Long before I got the Ninja 250, when I wanted something different to have in addition to the 1972 H2 I've had for 35 years, I got a standard, and have enjoyed it very much for general riding, camping, etc.. A 1989 Moto Guzzi Mille GT that I got for $2,500:

This is one very good reason why you should consider a Street Triple.

it's in the Triumph Street Triple International group on Facebook, so that might be the reason. Just poke around on youtube. You'll find some clips

I like my Sportster 1200. Used ones are relatively cheap. Lots of them with low mileage.

I test rode the Ducati Scrambler a year or two ago. They are a fun bike, not sure how they are for passengers though.

The adventure bikes are very comfortable and have decent power, A Versys 650 or 1000 would fit your needs.

The retro Kawi 900 are cool. Someone around here just bought the café racer and had the wheels powder coated gold. Beautiful.

Checked out a used Kawi Vulcan 900C they had on the lot. WOW. Now that thing is comfortable. Actually not too forward with the controls. Felt good. Not sure about the $6K price tag, when a new one would run a tad more...but still, quite impressive.

They had several other used options: A Yami Stryker, Honda VTX 1800, Honda 750, HD 883, even saw a decent FZ6 there. The runner up was one of the Honda VTX 1300's they had on the lot. Cheaper and yet was still really comfy. It is an older bike, but ticked all the boxes for me. Nice little windscreen, comfortable, saddlebags for storage, and it just felt good to sit on. Beauty thing, it didn't have boards, it had the pegs. It also had some highway pegs on it where you could reach them from the stock pegs. Almost like having a board, but not really. I liked it. That thing is a beast compared to the 250 (of course).

Also sat on a VTX 1800. It is comfy, but I also know it has a TON of power, way too much for what I'd need. 900 is plenty for me, I am stretching it considering a 1300...but nothing bigger. If it is all they have on the lot I like, I'd get it, but honestly, it would be a waste of motor and gas mileage for me.

Since one of your priorities is carrying passenger, have you sat on any bikes with a passenger?

Some things to consider when carrying a passenger:
1. How well does the passenger see over the rider's helmet? Nobody want to stare at the back of a helmet for the whole ride.

2. What's the size of passenger seating area?

3. Any back support for the passenger? Without handlebar to hold on to, passenger only have rider to hold on to in the front, backrest or back support would make passenger feel much more secure along the ride. I always tell my passenger to hold on to me, the rider, so I get the most direct feedback of my rider performance and gauge my riding style accordingly.

4. How well does the bike handle at parking lot speed with a passenger? most likely incidents will occur at parking lot speed when bike is less stable, especially with a passenger on the bike.

5. How difficult for passenger to get on/off the bike?

Personally, whenever I ride with a passenger, the passenger becomes the priority; their comfort, their safety and their ability to enjoy the ride.
When passenger is considered to be priority and able to enjoy the ride, they tend to be interested in riding more.

I do like the new Goldwings. A bit pricey for me though.

If I can get approved, the local dealer has SEVERAL Valkyries in stock for $10K. Brand new 2014's never sold with zero miles. I just don't know about that styling. I definitely prefer the Vulcan 900 Classic LT and the VTX 1300's styling to that one.

Definitely preferring a regular motorcycle to anything scooter. If I didn't have to rip 80mph on some trips, I may consider one. But I really am looking forward to getting something that not only I think looks cool, that is comfy on long trips, that holds a passenger well, but also something I can use as a prop during a photoshoot. My best friend is a model, and she is already planning shoots to do with me using my bike.

Hey, having owned more than 40 motorized 2-wheeled vehicles, I can tell you that none is more practical and comfortable for passenger than a maxi-scooter, long trips or short jaunts.
My $2500, 2007 Burgman 650 can easily get up to triple digit speed, cruises at 80+ mph easily and still gets well over 55 mpg.
It's not everyone that can be secure enough to operate a maxi-scoot, but those who have would know they are every bit as capable as motorcycles, even for spirited riding.
Speaking of models:

If cruiser look is what you're after, then buy a cruiser.
Personally, I don't care so much about looks when carrying a passenger, passenger is always more important than looks.

Windscreen situation is questionable, as the flyscreens definitely don't match a touring bike, but I absolutely love my Triumph Thruxton R with dual comfort seat and passenger pegs (passenger parts cost extra. I know...). It is a bit heavier than a sport bike, but has a nice suspension set up and handles really well. The main thing though, it just looks amazing.

Can probably find a used 2016-2017 in the price range.

They have a few used Triumph's there as well, and I do find myself wanting to take one for a spin. I've ALWAYS loved their style. Definitely a fan of the more classic designs. I love the Thruxton, Street Twin, Bonneville, Scrambler, and even the Rocket.

Posts: A lot.
Actually eyeing a low mileage Suzuki C90 right now. Got the paperwork so I can run to the bank next week. Has bags, screen, deflector for the legs, EFI, and stock pipes. The VTX was nice but pure straight pipes was a bit much for me. Need something quieter considering I'll be getting back to the house at around 1am, so quiet is required. Or just slightly modified.
