What are some good things about winter?

Ahh, the dark, cold winter is approaching. For many riders, this means the bikes are put up and we have to find other ways to entertain ourselves. Luckily here in Ga, we have occasional warm spurts during the winter when we can get our bikes out for a day or two. However, there are no mountain trips and much less riding. Many of my outdoor hobbies are limited.
So, seeing as how the winter can be a bit of a bummer, what are some GOOD things about it? Here's my list of my favorite things about my least favorite season:

Nice, warm fires
Roasting marshmallows
Cold nights = great sleeping!
Fleece (clothes/blankets/etc). I LOVE warm, cozy fleece!
Gives motivation to take time for some low-speed, parking lot practice on the bike

I wish I could add snow, but here we only see it once every 2-3 years. When it happens, that's certainly one of my favorite things! :-) What are yours?

Cold riding!
Great mountain biking weather.
Better weather to run in.
Can finally get some work done in the garage without sweating out 10lbs of water.
No AC bill.
Fires in the fireplace.
Keep the windows open and get fresh air in the house.
Great time to work on the motorcycle.
Great golfing weather.

Some other stuff too.

Awesome list so far! :-) Hey Mark, I have a question. I'm new to mt biking this past spring. LOVE it! I have an awesome mt bike with super knobby tires which really makes the trails fun! During the winter, however, it seems like trail riding would mean dealing with many slippery, wet leaves and cold, numb fingers. lol! So tell me, what is the perfect temperature for mt biking? I have LOVED spring early morning and fall (all day) temps, but I don't know if I'd enjoy it during the coldest months of the year. Guess there's only one way to find out! :-D

Snowmobiling? Must be nice. Not here in Ga! Though hubby and I do love to ski, but we have to go up to West Virginia or somewhere to do it. :-)

For me, the only good thing will be if I go down, I probably won't feel a thing for the 18 layers of clothes I'll have on for my commutes to school and work .

I love fall, though. Cool enough at night that I can open the windows and cool down the apartment overnight (we only ran our AC once when guests were over in the last 3 weeks ), but mild enough during the day that riding is very pleasant. Spring is too windy and rainy to be as much fun as fall, not to mention the humidity compared to the crisp autumn air.

Other than that, not a lot changes for me heh.

One good thing I like about winter is that I can wear my leather riding jacket. Oh and not having to hear "aren't you hot with all that gear on?".

You guys are lucky to be able to take the bike out during winter! We are not allowed on the roads between December 15th and March 15th due to the new (2008) winter tire regulation.

What this blows... My friends took out their scooter around christmas time, the police talked to them and said something along the lines of "Hey guys, I know you're riding those legally...but be careful ok?". ahah!

My VERBAL answer to that question is, "Well, all my gear is mesh, so as long as I'm moving, it's not so bad." My MENTAL answer is, "Of COURSE I'm hot, ya moron! But, as long as I'm moving, it's not so bad. So, uh, see ya...!"
