True, especially if you can't hack cold temps

I think they're choosing a late start time due to the temps recently. Been like 40 degrees and ****.

That is what heated gear is for! I love riding in the cold. Only time it gets that cold here is on a 6am morning commute, but man I love that freezing cold air on my face.

I have a general distrust of all things HoCo, but I think I'm ready for a group ride. I'm almost at the 1k mile mark and want to hit 2k before Thanksgiving. I don't think I can handle winter riding. Columbus Day was near my limit for cold tolerance.

Looking forward to it.

I don't understand the 'put the bike away' thing. If you haven't done it before, ride during the winter -- it's AWESOME. It doesn't require heated gear (unless it gets below about 10*, or you have to ride for more than an hour at a time). Just layer up, get good insulation, and enjoy being the local badass who still gets primo parking spots and can't be scared out of her hobby so easily!

I grew up in Southern California and I never understood cold until I moved here.
I didn't understand humidity either.
@jaesun I don't know why HoCo scares you. I was happy when I found out i could afford to live here! Lol

On topic again: I went out and ran the route today, since I hadn't done it in a while. The roads are in good shape, and there was little traffic. There are a couple of pretty serious curves that tend to have a little gravel around them, but I know where they are and can throw up a signal to take it slow.

And no, no reason to leave anyone behind. Even if a few folks are running the curves a bit faster than others, we can just slow down on the straights, or stop and wait at the next turn. I'm a big believer in riding at your own pace, and ensuring that no one feels pressured to ride outside their comfort zone.

Really looking forward to meeting everyone.

It's not that it scares me. Just a sketchiness. It's a suburb of Baltimore, yet no one there wants to admit it!

I did go through West Baltimore on Monday and that kinda scared me. I really haven't been through Baltimore since I finished the Wire about a year ago, and it definitely changed my perception of the city. (It was never that great to begin with. Haha.) There were plenty of "hoppers" just hanging about. I was half-expecting to see Omar with a shotgun. It also didn't help that the schools had just let out, and I was hitting every stop light possible. But it wasn't bad except for the potholes.

West Baltimore is just about one of the worst places around you can take the bike. And to be honest, Howard county is just about the opposite of a suburb of Baltimore, considering it is the 5th richest county in the entire country, especially places like Clarksville, I work there but have lived in Dundalk all my life. The amount of money people have out here was a bit of a shock to me.

When I worked in 911, on our one of our monitors when we pulled up an address to a house the police or fire dept needed to respond to - my God some of the houses out here are absolutely ridiculous. One of them the officer responded to for an alarm, and even over the radio he commented "Camelot is secure" LOL All of us dispatchers were just ooing and ahhing over the house. (Found out it was a lottery winner that lived there.) There's some "bad areas" of the county - places I would not want to be at night, for sure, but nothing compared to the city. It's amazing how just 20 miles away from the city you'd never expect the land and homes in HoCo - it's like you're in a different world.

For someone to have an opinion of HoCo like that hasn't really been in HoCo but on the outskirts near maybe Rt. 40 or Rt. 1 and not 'in' the county at all. Even until I worked for the county did I really see what a great place to live it is and how nice it is. Especially the Western parts!

Like others said,
HoCo is sooo not a "'burb" of Baltimore it is uber wealthy and only crappy in a few distinct pockets that touch Baltimore County/City area and Laurel/Rt 1.

Also Baltimore City isn't all bad as with any bigger city there are occasional pockets of non-suck. For instance the founder/CEO of under armor actually lives in Balt City, as does the founder of Sylvan Learning Centers, they live right near each other in multi-million dollar homes.

I live in southwest Baltimore City, my tiny 1-block long street is fine, go a few blocks north and you are in the murder alley of West B'more (and highest car insurance in the state because of thefts in that zip code) and it sucks, I've ridden it and during daylight it is more or less fine. Potholey yes, but I've faired better in the potholes on the ninjette than in my car. On the bike I can swerve easily in my lane to avoid in my lowered car not so much.

It is my right ankle, and actually didn't have a lot of trouble riding on Friday (rode my bike to work and so I had to ride it back). My only concern is it hurts if I put my feet down in a certain angle, so I'm worried when I'm at a stop and if I put my right foot down. Shouldn't really have to, but worried if I happen to do it and my ankle cant support the weight and I end up dropping my bike. Going on a ride shortly to test my ankle out some more.

I don't see why not. We all are still meeting at 2, but we'll hang around a bit before we head out, people always run late for these.

Fine with me. We could still plan on getting there around 2ish, and just go stands-up whenever Han gets there. We can hang out and geek out about Triumph triples and new Ninja 300s.

By the way, I'm going to PM everyone that's planning on going with my cell number incase someone is running late, something comes up, or the group gets split up on the ride.

It was a little cold on my way in to work this morning but it looks like we have a good day for riding ahead of us! I'm looking forward to seeing you all today.

I left my in laws lastnight in Dundalk around 7 and it was a little chilly going over the key bridge toward home.

But it's already warmer now at 9:39am than it was then.

Can't wait to see folks today
