Go to a discount store like Ross or Marshall's and pick up anything by New Balance. These wont be the cutting edge whiz bang shoes that cost 100+ dollars but for $30 a pair or so, you will pick up excellent running shoes.

i am a runner as well. you do not want to cheap out on shoes. that being said, i understand wanting to save some money.
check out: www.rnjsports.com i recc. asics gt 2150 - these are normally $100. however, you can purchase last year's model for $55. if you're willing to spend a little more, go with the asics kayanos - $140 shoes for $80. good luck! |

Be careful! Cheap shoes can often lead to injuries for runners! It's one cost I don't cut too much on, and I'm a cheap person as well. The moderately priced New Balance running shoes (anywhere from $40-100) are practical and seem to give the stability a runner's foot/ankle needs.

I only run in Vibram Five Fingers anymore. Start low mileage, then work up. Feet haven't been this strong since I was a kid. Haha. I love them, even if they do look odd.

If I could get away with mine at work, I would. I wear mine all the time otherwise. I have two pairs of Bikila and a pair of Komodo Sports. I used to hate running with a passion and stuck with mountain biking. Since I've switched to Five Fingers, I love it and all is well. No knee pain. No foot pain. No shin splints. I have spent $$$ on expensive running shoes with inserts. I have tried all the Asics GT-XXXX models; they never made running a joy. Five Fingers are an awesome shoe and made a believer out of me.

There are so many healthy ways to get and retain a particular heartbeat and sweat without continually slamming your body against the ground, especially concrete. Just never understood, especially after all the publications. Plus there's speedwalking, but no one wants to be seen doing that, though it fills the bill with no damage. Whatever.

I use Nike free runs. They are really light and flexible.

I recommend going to an actual running shoe store. They can measure and fit you properly and most of the time have plenty of stuff on clearance. Otherwise check Ross or Marshall's like Too40 mentioned. That said, you can really run in any shoe you want, like chucks... |

Thanks for all the input! I've been running in New Balance (not sure of the model) and when i first got them I loved them, now it hurts to run in them. More than likely it's my form. I'm still gonna check out some new shoes and i'm puttin all this info into consideration before my next purchase, don't get paid until the 7th though :-/

Just a suggestion, try to run barefoot for about 100 yards, you will most likely find what you are doing wrong pretty quick.
