Keep shoes clean

Anyone recommend a way to prevent boots/shoes from all having discoloration from the shifter knob? My boots are brownish and only have 150miles on them, but already the area they contact the shifter is very different color from the shifter knob.

Any suggestions on how to prevent that? Just clean the shoes, or a fact of life for riding?

Those reviews look pretty bad, have you had good luck with them?

Here's a suggestion: Wear riding boots. Stash shoes at regular destinations (leave work shoes at work) and carry them if needed elsewhere (you don't need them to go to Walmart).

Come on! You should've known you'd get that answer!

I don't use them because I don't really care about the condition of my boots. So I wouldn't know.

I wear riding boats 90% of the time, but I still like my stuff to look good. I'm one of the people that thinks having clean/good looking shoes is like keeping your fingernails clipped. It shows you've got your stuff together and pay attention to details. I think some high school counselor drilled that into my head long time back.

Take a look at these:
http://www.1tail.com/Yana_Shiki_USA/...SKLIME/756002/

They wrap around your boot at the toe to protect your boot.
I've never looked into these because my boots (tcx race boots) have an area on the toe for your shifter in the design.

That teacher would hate to see my work boots...

well iread it somewhere on this forum -

shoes not strong enough to bear a shifter knob (and losing their color+texture changin to roughish- take a closer look and you'll know what i mean)-
are definitely not strong enough to protect your feeeeeeeeeet in event of a (god forbid) accident

but only you know whats best for you-

PS- a friend of mine cut an old pair of sock into half and wore it over his riding shoes.
it prevents the discoloration but not a fracture to the feet

The wear on that spot shows that you actually ride, not just wear riding boots. It's cool

if you want to stay clean, riding a motorcycle is a bad idea.

I had a really bad wear patch on my boots...I fixed that with a little quick setting 2-part epoxy. It's waterproof, non-corrosive, and lasts a long time. Doesn't look the greatest, but I'm a biker damn it!!

Depending on the shoe or boot you wear, a little leather soap, (color match) leather dye and polish can keep the footwear clean, the leather supple and looking new. Super easy to do. Check your local Walmart for supplies.
