Finally feels like MY bike

Today after breakfast and few rounds of Battlefield Bad Company 2 I finally got the courage to rip into my bike. Got the fairings off, shimmed the needles, removed the snorkel, replaced the carb cover screws with socket head cap screws and installed a K&N air filter. Started after a few tries, I'm guessing because there was no fuel in the lines. Sounds better for sure! I also took off the two "3" stickers the bike had on the sides.

I finished too late to test ride it but I still wanted to thank the forum for helping me get this done. God bless

Thank you! Just woke up, and I'm about to take her for a ride. I hope the shimming and all else helps with the power lag at take off, I've stalled at lights one too many times. Above everything I hope I did everything correctly.

I'll be back with a few pics if it goes well.

Woot! Posting from my cousins house, so I made it in once piece. Power delivery is WAY smoother, sound is outstanding. Overall great results, now I just need to put in those new sparkplugs but i didn't want to do TOO much in one shot.

God bless Ninjette.org

Did you remove the entire air box?

Would be interested to hear the difference between the exhaust note before/after this mod. Any chance you took an audio clip after removing the snorkel and shimming the needles?

No, only removed the snorkel and put in a drop-in K&N filter

I would say the exhaust is the same, but now there is the added "growly" sound of the intake, which combined with the exhaust note, makes the bike sound a little less lawn-mower like

A DanMoto JISU will most likely be my next mod

Props to you
I got some washers for shimming, and the stuff needed to remove the Kleen Air system, just no time to do it

Hopefully I'll get some time before work friday!

Honestly, most of my time was wasted in going to home depot twice, because I replaced the carb cover screws with allen heads and I bought 4 instead of 8, so I had to go back. Also taking the fairings apart took more time than shimming and removing the snorkel/putting in new filter.

I think I'll buy one of those nice Kleen Air block off plates off ebay and do the same

Yeah the home depot around here didn't have 3mm washers, so I had to go to radioshack and get some.

As for the Kleen Air, I'm just gonna follow this thread: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...ighlight=kleen

Plus this one:
http://www.newninja.com/forums/f98/k...date-4659.html

I may grab some of those filters if I run into any problems blocking them off.

Do you have an aftermarket air filter on? since our bikes will have the exact same mods, if/when you do the kleen air delete, let me know how it goes. It seems to be kinda complicated specially since I'm in CA and mine has extra hoses to deal with

I haven't put one on it, and I doubt the previous owner put one on, I bought it with 137 miles.
