give me your opinion - craigslist ad for 636

http://cnj.craigslist.org/mcy/1807979613.html

ive already contacted the owner but do you think its worth me going to check it out? i've never dealt with any vehicle that has had a salvage title and the ad states that he fixed the front plastics and the forks.

I've never dealt with a salvage title either but that is one sweet looking bike. I'd have to pass it over though without doing more research. Doesn't hurt to go check the bike out. GL

Salvage bikes are only worth 1/2 of the retail value of a non salvage bike.
I would not give over $1500 for that bike. NADA value on a non salvage 2004 636 is $2850 - $3750.

Typically, in most states a vehicle or motorcycle with a salvage title cannot be registered for use on public roads until after it has been inspected for structural/functional condition and the VINs of all the major pieces verified as not stolen. Contact your local department of motor vehicles to find out specific rules for your area. Also, it may be difficult or impossible to get insurance for a bike with a salvage notation on the title. For these reasons, salvage title vehicles are rarely worth more than a fraction of what a full titled vehicle is worth.

Sometimes bikes get salvage titles after an accident if the insurance company deems it not worth fixing and instead just pay out. Sometime this could be only minor damage. To get it registered you have to prove that whatever caused it to be salvaged has been fully repaired. Usually you can get a good deal on salvaged bikes but it can take some patience to get it registered.
