[SOME GORE] Dirtbiker riding forest trail gets speared through leg

Link to original page on YouTube.

Someone asked him why he took the photos and he wrote:

Quote:
Why? Long story with a few aspects to it, let's say just in this particular case it was for insurance reasons, aka TAC. They like lots of proof of events if possible. Also, photo opportunities like that don't come along every day, it was then or never, it's not like back at camp he was gunna say 'Ok you can put it back in for a photo now'..
On another channel where the video was posted they reported the rider:
* spent 11 days in hospital
* had 2 pieces of splinter both ~50mm long removed from his calf
* had an artery repair
* had two skin grafts
* had tons of stiches

Impaled in the leg through a boot; I get the feeling that the chances of this happening must be pretty low. I expect you've got more chance of being one of the small number of people that are attacked by sharks each year.

An impressive injury, I'm sure. Hope the guy does recover. Kind of a freak thing to happen.

I'll bet that hurt like hell! Took it like a champ. Still impressed it went right through the boot. I keep watching it over again.

Little surprised the guy just grabs and rips it out, think you would want to leave it in until get to the hospital.

Normally with an impalement, you do want to leave it in until it can be carefully pulled and treatment done if it was holding something vital shut. You can do as much damage pulling it out as it did going in, if you're not careful and know what you're doing.

I guess this one was too big to really function with it still in. I probably would have pulled it, too, even knowing it's likely a bad idea.

that's crazy, been riding dirt for years with lots of friends, never had anything remotely close to this happen to me or them.

I've taken some branches to the leg, shoulder, and even chest, never had much more than a scratch.

I don't think I'm a lot dumber than you thought that I think that I thought I was once.
