Is my rev limiter disabled?

I don't have a guage cluster yet, and I'm afraid of over reving the engine. Is it possible to disable the rev limitter, or is it hardwired into the bike? I don't want to take any chances. I'll wait for the guages if I have to.

If you ride responsibly then you shouldn't get close to the rev limiter. I would definitely wait until you get the cluster to ride, how would you know your speed? Besides, you still have another bike to ride, right?

I believe the rev limiter is an integral part of the CDI unit. the pregens have the rev limiter set at 15000 rpm.

Rev limiter is in the CDI, has nothing to do with the gauges. If the bike is running, the CDI is in place.

15000? I thought it bounced at 14,000? I try not to bounce it off the limiter and I don't really watch the rpms; I just listen and shift when it feels right

The older ones were set at 15k, the newer ones are set at 14k.

I thought it was 13.5k for the newer gens, the brt tis allows you to bump it to 14k.

Yup, you very well may be right. The listed redline on the tach on the new-gens is 13K, and the rev limiter with spark cutoff may be at that 13,500 rpm level. On his '86 though, the rev limiter may be set at 15,500 rpm, at least according to this link on the the pre-gen wiki at the other org site.
