Question about checking coolant reservoir.

It looks like there's too much in there-almost to the top. Maybe they overfilled it at the dealer. But I must ask-do you check the level when the bike is upright or on the side stand?

You check it when it is upright and the bike is cold.

A little tip: When you have the fairings off, get a marker and mark the levels on the reservoir tank. Makes it a lot easier to see looking thru the fairing.

Thanks Blue. It wasn't overfilled-just looked that way. It's almost impossible to see the level thru the semi clear resevior. I had to take the cap off, shine a bright flashlight inside, and shake the bike. On the 650, it's easy to see, but not the Ninjette.

I'm pretty sure they got the mixture wrong and the plastic is supposed to be a little less opaque/a little more transparent. Anyway, the manual tells you to check with the bike upright. It also tells you to look between the fairing cuts, which is damn near impossible to see. I always have to take the fairings off or just dip something.

Blue"s hint about the marker pen marking the limits is very helpful. That is what I did. A real quick way ro check the level is to first ascertain where the level is when cold (upper mark), Stick one of those long plastic straws down into the resevoir and put your finger on top of the straw. When you pull it out, you will have a fluid level visible in the straw. Mark that level on the straw with a Sharpie. You now have a dipstick for your coolant.
