If he would have jumped on my hood . I would have floored it streight into the other truck. Then held my foot on the gas. Pushing his truck down the road with him traped between the two trucks. Then just told the police my foot slipped off the break in all the excitement.

This guy missed the opportunity of having a good fight and less damage to both vehicles.

Running away like that encouraged the other guy even more and created a lot of really dangerous traffic situations.

Avoiding confrontations is OK, but this guy went too far in my opinion.

He should have played dead. Running made the other guy think he was a food source and pursue him.

I agree...first time that guy got out of his truck and came running towards me, I would have dropped him right there in the road with two .45 holes in him.

His comment at towards the end "how do you deal with someone who tries to kill you" here's my reply...with all that on video, I'll try to kill him first, at the point it's self-defense! Everything goes!

foreign countries don't always support self defense like the US does.
What happens is you second guess your actions. Since your not legally protected...

Thats why the guy tried to escape instead of fight or run the perp over.

Its not that he was a coward, he just had too much to lose.
In the US you could have defended yourself even without the video as evidence.
And not have gotten charged.

In Australia guns are a nono, so it's unlikely any one would have guns freely

Simple solution.

Step out of your vehicle, let the crazed, pathetic man charge at you and when he gets close, shoot him. While hes sitting there crying call the cops.

Simple solution.

That sure worked well for Zimmerman .

*Not sure if the gun posts are serious, but if you shoot someone, even in the US, you are going to have a bad time. Unless you have concrete evidence, like this guy's video cam.

That was different, there was a pursuit, and zimmerman exited his vehicle.

In this case, it was broad day light, man tried to trap victim, commit assault multiple times, there were witnesses, etc.

Totally different scenario.

And yes i am dead serious

Doing some quick research, seems like Australian officers cant carry any duty equipment when off duty...

Even if the perp actually was able to trap and disable an off duty policemans vehicle it would have still ended in HTH.

Seems odd to me, since most police carry a firearm and flex cuffs off duty here.

All you need is witnesses brah. But srs, just make sure you got ur gopros on everywhere and especially wichever cam you have on ur helmet, that way you have clear and perfect evidence of every action taking place. The dude charging, yelling at you, threatening you and you pulling out the gun and droppin his sorry ass.

I have no remorse or sympathy for anyone who tries to harm me or the people i care about so it'd be an easy decision tbh.

This happened about an hour from my place. What a lunatic.
But yeah very few Auzzies have firearms. If I decided I wanted a gun today by the time you go through the paperwork and get approved for a gun licence then you need to go through another round of paperwork and forms to acquire a firearm. Can take 6 months to a year before you can actually pick up your gun. Even then no one is allowed a fully automatic wepons, and there are very strict rules and regulations regarding storage, when and where you can use it etc.

I recon Americas gun laws are ridiculous and backward.

I would LOVE to know what instigated this. Sure, some people are just crazy, but the guy driving the tan truck obviously had done something to piss the guy off. Did he do a hit-and-run and not know it? did he pull out in front of the guy and almost cause an accident? not enough info in this video to know.

I've had one person basically run me off the road on my bike. Thankfully I was in an urban environment, and just swerved through some cars and took off. That's another thing that makes me scared to drive such an underpowered motorcycle on the road. A civic could run you down in an event like this.

sounds like there's a lot of miss-information about the proper and legal use of a firearm in self defense. The scary thing, is it sounds like most of you are gun owners. I'm sure a lot of it is just macho man posturing, but there's some truth to your insane comments about shooting someone who is approaching your vehicle. Before you start carrying a weapon on your bike or in your car, I would recommend you refresh your knowledge of proper gun handling, before you end up slapped with a felony for showing a gun to an off-duty police officer.

if he actually was successful in trapping the victims car he wouldn't he alive to talk about it.
but even if the victim did have a gun legally and used it to defend himself, he would still face litigation...

its not only the gun that makes a difference the legal system has to support you action as well.

i think the correct words are balanced and realistic.

our laws promote self defense and provide clear direction on when deadly force is appropriate. the laws also protect the ownership of firearms and other tools for personal carry, defense, and practice.

to me its ridiculous that laws are so strict even an off duty policemen can't carry his duty gear in case he needs to respond.

maybe the guy looked at him wrong...
honestly i think you can throw any justification out the window, when you saw him jump on the hood and start pounding the windshield like a zombie from Dawn of the Dead(2004)...

i had a couple instances where they just didn't see me, and i just avoided them.

then i had a person repeatedly cut me off for enjoyment, i just slowed down and pulled over. they just sped off afterwards. if they made a u turn and got out of their vehicle it would have been real ugly...

around here brandishing a firearm is a misdemeanor, but check your local laws they vary from state to state and sometimes county to county.

off duty officers only respond to certain situations, and are trained to identify themselves in a secure/safe manner, not aggressively. if they are found to be too aggressive when off duty they are placed in remedial training.

i doubt anybody here would actually encounter an off duty cop aggressively assaulting their vehicle with no badge and an unmarked vehicle.

an off-duty officer doesn't have to be aggressive towards you to be sitting in a car next to you when you flash a gun at someone else.

laws regarding brandishing a weapon vary from place to place, agreed. Either way, unless you're in immediate danger, it's illegal. There have been many cases where people are charged with brandishing a weapon in road rage situations.

idk about yelling it just makes me laugh.

if he was driving slow i would have just sped off like you did.
but when he matches your speed repeatably trying to hit you then you need to stop and either call the cops, prepare to defend yourself, or both.

I don't think anyone here advocated just to brandish...
just that when there's a danger to life, which in this case is clear, the automated advancement of the perp would result in death.

trust me brandishing/threats are not really effective for insane people, fighting HTH isn't either.

Great find, Alex.

All that guy needs is love...............and he may be able to find it in jail.

Maybe, but with 28 days to do a criminal background check, maybe not and certainly not from now on for the rest of his life.
4 times less likely to be murdered and 9 times less by a gun in Australia then the USA

glad this guy is off the road. Crazy that he's done this to other drivers too. The guy obviously has some rage issues, and not only should he never be allowed to get a gun, he shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of a car ever again.

The guy I came across, who knows, maybe he just got laid off and was in the process of getting a divorce. Just because he's having a bad afternoon, doesn't mean he deserves to die.

and maybe you need to remember your own posts, the only reason I agreed with you on the laws differing between brandishing a gun, is because YOU started the discussion.

abrasiveness gets you nowhere in life, except ignored.

i agree with not him not being able to drive ever again, where we differ is that he should been DRT. not wasting tax dollar and resources in jail.

take my advice...
dont make the mistake of justifying the crazy, not only is it not worth your time...

you will end up victimizing yourself...

you misunderstand me, that comment was about my experience riding with ragers.
people that yell at me when riding make me laugh, its like they think they own the road. i don't really care unless they start physically projecting danger towards another person... then i will find a way to end the rage either by calling cops or worse.

idk, i seem to have gotten far with it.

the only reason i went down that path was due to this comment

i figured it would be useful for others be able to research the legal definition rather than guess.
