EX500 on 3 0 0 frame?

Just a thought, I spread out the 300 to put emphasis that it's indeed a different idea than the already done 500 into 250 swap.

I think this is a better option because frame stability isn't as big of a concern considering the 300s have a sturdier frame -- 'less I've heard wrong. I'd also imagine there'd be a bit more room to work in the 300 frame.

Your thoughts?

The 500 gets 49 hp, the 300 gets 35, so lets say 15 hp difference.

The 500 engine is a very heavy old engine, so with the weight difference lets say you'll effectivly get 4 less horsepower, so say 11 hp difference.

If you did a full exhaust and got a piggy back ECU you could squeeze out enoigh power to make that gap negligable.

So, while it may be possible, it's cheaper, easier and probably faster to just do a full system, filter and ecu on the 300.

The engine in the 300 is so good, I don't really think it would be an upgrade.

Plus we haven't really touched up on the full potential of the 300 engine. We've seen 38-39 with just fuel, intake, and exhaust. Haven't seen ignition timing or any internal engine mods yet.

I think I'm with josh on this one.

The 300 should be able to break 50hp, but the 500 will always feel like it has more low end power.

I'd rather get a 650 or 600 at that point.
There wont be much difference in time/money spent.

I dont think anyone is hating on your bike.
Just the cost effectiveness of the swap.

When you have proof that an average rider can go sub-4 seconds, we'll talk.

Kawasaki is hopeful on their 0-60 claims. Closest one we've found on a 250 was rojo and he's not an average rider. He came in a hair south of 6 seconds. Claimed time is 5.75. That's a huge difference.

Sub-4 sounds more typical of a 600 with a good rider. Is guess your 500 is more in the range of 5-5.5 with an average rider. That time is well within the realm of a 300

No doubt the 500 is faster, but does it have FI or a slipper clutch?.. don't think so.

Wouldn't putting a big meaty engine on a Ninja 300 kind of defeat the purpose?

If what you want is a Ninja 650, then get a used one. They can easily be had for the same money as a new 300.

As far as I know kawasaki never made any 0-60 claims for the 500. Check youtube, the average rider is doing under 5 second 0-60s on ninja 500s. My best is 4.1 seconds and I can easily do 4.5 range 0-60s without any sort of launch, just a regular take off then WOT. Bone stock bike for those wondering. Best I've seen in a magazine is 3.9. I'm waiting for the day when a 300 can hit 60 that fast, consistently.

Back on topic, the ninja 650 engine is dimensionally smaller than the 500 engine so you can imagine the size difference between the 300 and the 500. It would be pointless, and you'd be giving up EFI, slipper clutch, a better gearbox and just a better, lighter more modern engine for 1980s technology. Not to mention the 300 platform as a whole punches way above it's weight, it does put numbers down in 500cc territory (GS500, CBR500)
