Best rear shock for the pregen

I'm looking to maybe raise up the back end to. I know new gen 250/300 work. Does the zx6 work?
What's the best one to add height maybe make it a bit more stiffer?

an older zx6 shock works and makes the back end stiffer if you had more air to it and play with the preload. But the shock is shorter than stock so actually lower the back end an inch or so.

i was thinking the 300 shock might due! not sure if these much different then the 08+ 250 shock

The part number is different but I've read that they're interchangeable with the older models.

I'd say to measure the shock/figure out which supersport model matches up closest to what you want (I believe it's the gsxr shock that's the longest but I'm far from sure) then head to a junkyard and get a crazy deal off a low mileage totaled supersport/superbike.

i found that ninja 250 riders club page very useful!

but instead of just reading about it, i also like to hear other people option on it as well. thats all. i do search things lol

well in that case, the newgen shock is a decent upgrade if you're balancing cost and moderate upgrades.

The 300 shock is physically the same dimensions as the newgen shock, but is rumored to have slightly different valving instead, giving a little different damping.

If you're on a budget, I'd go for the 300 shock. If you're not on a budget, I'd sell the bike and get a 300.

Although it's still too cold here for me to ride, I just put a Ninja 300 rear shock on my 2007 250. Fits perfect and I only paid $40 shipped for it with around 1200 miles on the shock. It looks a bit beefier compared to the original. I'd say try the 300 shock if you can get it cheap enough.

Same exact distance between centers of anchoring holes?

i picked one off a 2013 300 and it has dog bones to for 40 bucks shipped.

I put the 300 shock on today and level 4. I'm 5'11" and 170lbs
And it's deff a huge difference!!

i put an 08 shock on my pre gen for a firm back-side ..you know what i mean... not expecting the modest height gains that came with it. performs as expected...got it from a member that lives here who bought it on ebay...price i cant remember right now, but that i cant means it was a bargain

it's done me well. happy hunting and let us know how it goes
