Exhaust debate: full system vs slip-on

Hello All, I am new here and new to a street bike. I just started riding in October and have since been to the track twice, and am fully addicted! I want to upgrade my stock exhaust and am wondering if I should go with a full system vs. a slip-on. I plan on getting a jet kit as well. Also I have included a poll for brands and the reasons why you love them! Weight is an issue for me as I am only 5'4'' and weigh about 105 lbs. Thanks!!

I have a full Yoshimura TRC exhaust with a carbon can. I started with the MGP Growler slip-on and upgraded because of a couple reasons...

1) for me the MGP Growler was too loud
2) the slip-on does not offer any real performance gain

It really depends on what you are looking for. If looks and sound is all you are really looking for then a slip-on is fine. If you want any actual performance gain you should go full exhaust. Brands are a personal opinion... I've personally always liked the looks and sound of Yoshi so that's why I went with it

Full system all the way. A slip on only changes the sound of your bike. We just had a group buy on Area P full systems, you may still be able to get in on it.

great feedback

Thanks so much for the quick feedback!! I'm going with the full exhaust and jet kit because I want performance as well for both the track and the freeway. I think I'm going to go with the Yoshi since I can get a smoking deal on it - even better than the group rate on the Area P.

You won't be dissappointed with the Yosh... the sound and look are incredible. You may get slightly more power out of the Area P... but I never really cared for their styling and the difference is minimal anyway.

Be prepared for your bike to sound like a 747

Hahahha!! I can't imagine my baby ninja ever sounding like a 747!! But it'll be great when it does. Now I just need a great mechanic and dyno - person. Any recommendation in San Fernando valley area?

Also, even if it's a slip-on, you'll lose some weight since the stock can is heavy.

Quick question, i keep on seeing people saying that a slip on only really changes the tone of the exaust without giving much HP increase, would it be worth just buying aftermarket headers and keeping the stock exaust to get a few ponies without having a exaust thats too loud... (has anyone tried this and dyno'd a before and after?)

I've never seen that done. If you're going to go to all that length to buy aftermarket headers and then fit the oem pipe on to it (different diameter pipes) you should just get the full system from Area P with the 18" quiet core can. It's only minimally louder than the stock system and gives good performance gains.

When I do decide to change exhaust it will be a full complete replacement. Thanks to the forums on whats available for the 250 and research done I will spend my money with Area P.

I think Area P has the most gain for amount spent.

Yoshi is my second choice.

Hello GUys,....

The argument between slip-on exhaust and entire structures regularly comes down to comfort and rate vs overall performance improvements. Complete structures are greater highly-priced and require greater intricate installation, however they furnish apparent strength increases; in contrast, slip-ons are much less high priced and easier to install, however they supply much less seen overall performance gains.
