An excellent save

Here is why body positioning and all that greatness comes in handy...when your back end comes out on you.

I watched this race and Hacking is one heck of a rider. Part luck, part skill, all awesome.

body positioning saved him because once the bike started going out, he most likely drove his left knee into the ground to keep the bike upright and, well if you saw pictures of it, he actually had his forearm on the ground pushing up on the bike as well.

There was a whole lot of luck going on there, but the body position is what was actually made recovery possible. You have bad position, you'd never have a chance of saving something like that.

I've seen links to that one before, it's fake; it's from some overseas commercial. Fantastic visual, though.

It kind of makes sense that it is fake. After he got off the bike, it kept altering its movements. It dips left (right visually) then back up right again, and repeats. Once that sucker is rolling on its own, and it dips to a side, it will continue to fall that way until it hits the ground. It would need some kind of steering input to right itself, which of course it didn't have.

Jamie Hacking has skills. It's a shame he hasn't found a ride the last year or two.

I just don't see how you can get back on the seat without giving the wrong handlebar inputs if you don't have anything to push your feet off of.

The only problem with saving the bike, after a near crash like those, is the squishy feeling in the seat of your leathers.

These "rights" only happen on rare occassions. Mamola has some of the wildest crashes in racing (which he didn't save).
