When you are racing you aways want to turn around and look before you're going to crash so you know if someone is going to run you over.

Kevin, if you watch any racing on TV these guys turn around and look how close the guy is behind them (remember the no mirror post). They try to do it at a safe place on the track but as you can see in the video that isn't always the case. It is stupid to do since the pit board will tell them where they stand but it's hard not to look and see who is behind you and how close they are.

He was looking back to see who was around before he started the big drift, unfortunately the bike didn't understand it was supposed to be a drift and not a pitch...lol If I recall correctly, that year on the Cagiva, Randy wasn't exactly thrilled with the Pirelli tires, thus it became a big smokey drift show at most races as he couldn't run up front for many reasons.

Luckily, motorcycles are inherantly stable in motion and want to return that way on their own.

This one is also pretty amazing in my books...the bike doesn't whip-lash as savagely but it's quite amazing still.

I would love to puff out my chest and give you an an eloquently put answer thus demonstrating my intelligence and in doing so impressing you, a girl
...but I don't know Akima, I can only hazard a guess. I hear not fighting the bike in situations like these is the way to go and perhaps a bit of luck?

I think it has a lot to do with having presense of mind to let the bike do what it wants to do when you realize it's gotten out of shape. In that last video, I think he probably removed power from the rear wheel, and also resisted braking so the tire had the best chance of re-gaining grip. While most of us instinctively use braking, which can sometimes make things worse, he just let the bike correct itself. Not always an option when you're in traffic, but it's the perfect response on a track.

I dunno... I've never heard it before either and only understood because of Alex. Unless you mean "checking in and out" of hotels is an Americanism, in which case, that's news to me.

Looks a bit staged... And is it just me, or does it look like the two other riders deliberatly cross path between him and the bike? It wasn't their racing line, it just looked reckless.

Could it have been staged? Yes

But that would still require them to crash in a way that the bike went strait and not into the wall. I can't think there would be many attempts to get it right

As for the riders swerving. Well from their point of view there trying to predict the path of travel as well as getting on the correct side of the track for the next turn so in an instant the path they took seeming like the best bet.

Don't analyze the video just watch it smile a bit that's what it there for
