Ninjette, meet your older sister (ZX6R)

Or "I didn't crash my 250 so I got a ZX6R". Bought my new bike today but it wasn't ready until the sun went down; will post some real pics later when there's actual daylight out. Until then all I have is this crappy cell phone pic from before I told them to take the stupid bling parts off:

I asked them to replace the wind screen with the stock one and get rid of that grab bar on the tank. Kept the shorty levers because I didn't mind them that much. Everything else was stock.

Aside from the usual differences (seating position, grip position, feet and gear levers, throttle input, etc) that most people have mentioned before, the thing that popped out at me the most during my first ride on it tonight was man, the engine sounds really bored when I'm on the street doing 35. On the freeway it started sounding happier when I went above 7k rpm. Gonna have to keep reminding myself to take it easy during the break-in period.

Not getting rid of the 250 though; my fiance's gonna be on it full time now instead of only getting to ride it every now and then.

Maybe for passenger so they can have a better grip and stay in the tucked position?

You either haven't been riding too long or you have been married too long!

Nice bike, im with cbinker on the grab bar though. Were getting one on the 1000, not so much because she cant find something to grab onto while riding, but when braking her hand/wrist gets sore after a while. At least she can hold onto the bar instead of pressing her palm into the tank now.

I know motorcycle superstore sells it for the n1k at least.

I don't know about you guys; I tuck down often enough and that bar will just get in the way.

Chris, do a search for "PSR 2-up bar".

Thanks guys!

Brian, for some reason I didn't see your reply up there earlier; grats

Is it odd that I think the zx6r sounds like a huge tank full of very angry bees when I'm scooting around in low rpm?

It's from Temple City Powersports; it's maybe 20 miles from where you are I think. Ask for Sabrina and see where that bar off of Dave's zx6r is.

Went running around all over town this weekend and I realized that I'm still shifting as if I was still on the 250; should probably change that.

Any of you guys that made the same switch had that problem?

(haven't gone to any scenic places yet)

Looking good Dave!!!

While I don't have my ZX6R yet I do foresee myself doing the same thing. It makes sense that you are just doing what you've learned on the 250 and it is just a habit. In my books that might be a good thing while you are getting used to the additional power by keeping in the lower RPM ranges.

I just bought a new car, my first auto in years. Everyday I get in and press the clutch in to start the car.....and everyday I notice there is no clutch there. I'm sure I will break the habit just like you will with the gearing.

I go through all 6 gears in my ZX6R during my commutes and in the city, it's easy to do since the bike will pull decently in any gear before bogging.

^^ Commuting at freeway speeds in 6th is so relaxing on a 600. The bike feels like it's just out for a jog. That's the one thing I really appreciated when I was able to ride a CBR long term. It's also the one thing I wish I could get out of my 250 that I know I'm never going to get, even with higher gearing.

Heh, thanks, Brian.

Good to know I'm not the only weirdo that's still going all the way up to 6th even though I'm just putting along at 40, Richard.

And Chris, ain't that the truth. Granted I never had any problems cruising in the HOV lane at 80 and still have enough acceleration to scoot around when I need to with the 250, but it really is nice to be at freeway speeds and still have 9k left on the tach before I redline.

Grats on the bike, it looks great! I definitely know what you mean about the shifting though. The 636 always sounds like it's getting up there and then I look, and I'm only at 6k rpm.

Congrats! Looks sharp! I got mine about three weeks ago, a 2011 in green. I ride around town in 5th or 6th gear depending on the speed limit..try to keep it around 5k for cruising.

I too am carrying over my shifting from the 250, making it a really choppy ride lol Put about 400 some miles on it so far, scheduled to put about 2000 in the next month (riding to chicago and back!). It's a bit harder to rev match on downshifts, so easy to make the bike surge, but I'm starting to get used to it. The other thing is also upshifting..I think it engages quicker, so I have to reapply throttle earlier than on the 250. I guess I can change that, but I don't feel like messing with it yet.

One thing I did notice, on windy days when going at a decent pace, I notice that my helmet starts pulling upwards, like my helmet is trying to fly off my head! Have you had that happen to you??

Thanks, guys!

Gear shifting is definitely a bit different; on mine going clutchless upwards is really, REALLY smooth. And yup, almost feels like I have to jump on the throttle when changing gears. That's mostly smoothed over by now since I've had a week of playing around on it. And I don't know why but blipping seems easier than the 250 to me. Probably because the throttle response is better?

Now that you mentioned it, Rahul, I felt that helmet lift on the 250 on windy days when I'm going 80 but not on the 6r. I think it's probably because my head is now angled more forward due to the seating position.

hmm interesting! i never felt it on my 250 but I think maybe the big reason is because on my 6R I'm usually riding with a tank bag which ends up putting my head right where the air flow leaves the windscreen. I did some clutchless upshifting today and I agree, it is silky smooth!! I didn't even feel it changing so I had to look at the indicator to see if I shifted up a gear LOL!
