Bridgestone 003RS Feedback

I ran a set of 110/140 on my racebike this past weekend for the first time. Grip is fine... as good as the BT016s or BT090s at Willow Springs. There are 2 issues with the tires:

1. Tire profile is flatter than BT016 or BT090 resulting in slow turn-in. Front tire is wider than it should be, resulting in a pinched profile and chickenstrips remaining even after hard track use.

2. The big issue is that the tires are very squirmy and darty. It must be due to the multiple compounds. When transitioning from one compound to another, the bike becomes unsettled, resulting in too much input into the bike's controls (and rider). Sidewall stiffness falls between the 016s and 090s. Its a fairly stiff sidewall and does transmit quite a bit of road feel to the rider.

Rather worryingly, a groove appeared on both sides of the rear tire about 1/2" from the tire edge. Looks like it might be a seam between compounds.

Overall, I prefer this tire over the 090s, but still feel the 016s are MUCH better.

Dang! I have a set of these on the way. Any way you could get a picture of these grooves? I know I have definite lines in my 016's where the different compounds meet, but no groves.

Richard, in what order would you stack the three (003, 016, 090) for average street use?

003 RS: Average life, slow turn in, unstable (keep in mind that this is on a racetrack, may be fine on the street)

090: Wears quickly, stiff carcass, good turn-in, sticky

016: Rear is too large (not an issue), great tire life, soft ride

Best street tire IMHO is the 016, then the 003RS, then the 090.
