Top Speeds?

I know this question has been asked a few times but I didn't feel like bumping a thread. How fast have you guys gotten your bikes going (year 2007 or before that is, of course)? Before I wrecked mine, I got up to 111mph on the spedo, and that was at 13k, full tuck, with the mirrors folded in, on a recently paved flat straight highway, no wind, and new Pirelli Sport Demons. I had also just done a valve tune up, synced and tuned my carbs, oil change, new air filter, and chain cleaned and lubed.

I'm not sure I've ever topped mine out...seemed pointless. It pulls pretty good past 90mph indicated though.

Just for the record . At this stage the fastest documented speed for a ninja 250 is forum member Shiphteey with his pre Jen going 122.40. The fastest new ninja is my 2008 going 121.8.

I think my record is 108 on a bone stock 2006, which was reading about 118mph on the speedo. Long downhill straight with a tailwind. Unless you've done some serious engine work, pretty much anything over 103mph is going to be due to wind and road conditions rather than your skills at twisting throttle and installing slipons.

My "max speed" read by my KOSO gauge (which should be perfectly accurate) has it at 110 mph. I can hit 106-107 consistently but the bike ran exceptionally well the day of the 110. I'm also located in flatland Florida but I may have been in a tailwind that day.

A buddy of mine just topped out his 2006 at 110mph with a gps. Full stock with a bit of a tail wind but flat road. Didn't ask what his spedo read.

http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/gearspeed.html

This is a drive train speed calculator. All you do is fill in the blanks.and it will tell you what the speed you reach for a giver RPM. This is just a math program that says if the engine turns this fast the rear tire is going to turn this fast.It does not take aerodynamic drag into account.

fill in the blanks as follows
crank 23
flywheel 71
1st 2.60
2nd 1.789
3rd1.409
4th1.160
5th1.0
6th.893

the stock rear tire is about 24.5 inch tall
for jack shaft put in 1
for tire growth put in 1

THEN put in your gear ratio. Front 14 15 16

and rear 45 - 39 or what ever you have.

It is a fun a powerful tool.

you can put in what ever gear ratio and find out where the rev limiter hits and know the bike will never go faster than that.

That corrects for speedo error it dose not tell you the exact speed per rpm with what ever gear you have.

It tells you the actual (true) speed for any given RPM in any gear. Isn't that what you wanted?

The speedo error calculations aren't relevant to the rest of the inputs.

From what I can see it has actual speed and indicated speed and rpm. How do you know the actual speed?
if you change the rear gear ratio the rpm will change for a given speed. The drive train calculator tells you the mechanical speed for all the gears. And it will allow you to figure out what rpm you would need the engine to turn to go a given speed.

My Koso dash has no speedo error.

It is also set up for 16 inch rims .With a couple tire choices. Not the actual size of the tire.

About 110 is right for a first gen with some mods and a tail wind. I have seen a stock 2003 ninja do over 109 in a mile. But it was like a 30 mph tail wind.

He is only about 120 lbs but I wouldn't be surprised if he tacked on a few mph to the speed tho. He's getting some Sport Demons in the next day or two so we'll see what it can do after that.

What track was this and what gearing were you running?

At Texas World Speedway which uses the nascar straight I only got to 101.5 on my GPS wide open.

115 is awesome . Have you dynoed the bike? 12300 rpm in sixth gear is about 35 hp unless you where going down a hill of coming off some banking.

lol the banking lol your good haha. and i think i am at least 30 or more. i need to dyno. Only thing i see different about my bike is the cams i have. I have one of the older engines that had the more duration camshafts and i can really tell the difference between another ninja at mid and highs. I wish someone knew what difference in hp they were.

And ha next friday i want to do the same to see if it improved.

Also racer x i fiberglassed a race faring that is pretty similar to yours so i do have aero dynamics too on my side. and weight i dont weigh nada ha
