Exclamation Rattle...

Hi guys I have an 09 with just over 1500 miles on it and this is my first bike. My question is, are these bike supposed to rattle when you are riding them? It seems that there is alot of mechanical noise coming from the engine that ranges from a mild tap to a slight rattle depending on how high it's being revved. Should I be concerned, bike still runs great and pulls very hard from the mid to the top. Any opinions would be appreciated.

It MIGHT be normal... difficult to know without hearing.

Does the rattle seem to change from day to day?

Most of the bikes hit a certain RPM where the sound and engine speed makes everything shake. (Somewhere around 7k)

The vibration increases as you approach that resonance point and then disapears shortly afterwards.

If you have any doubts see if any ninjette guys live close to you and have them take a listen/test ride.

has it always done this, even when stock, or have you noticed this after doing some mods. if modded, what are they?

are you sure they are engine noises? Can you replicate them when in the garage playing with the throttle?

When I first started riding I was freaked out about the noise the chain makes at high rpm's, it could just be something simple like that or you may have some loose bolts somewhere.

May be worth to check all your various bolts on the fairings, etc...

forgot to mention... try putting your hand on the clutch lever and see if that stops some of the rattles at higher rpms.

Also, take the spare change out of the glove box

(make sure the "tool kit" is secured in the trunk)

does it at high rpms. It will do it when I'm not moving if I rev above 7k. Sounds a little different when I'm riding tho, I just figured it was internal mechanical noise of these little engines. I was told that these engines could be a little "loud", and yes it has done this since the day I got it.

If its a buzzy noise from the front at certain rpms, check the windshield. some have reported buzzing from it up in front by the nose behind the cluster. I had this problem. It was the botton of the windshield. To verify this i had to find exactly when at what gear and rpms it happened, then pushed against the windshield to see if it stopped. Anyway If you cant figure it out I recommed you take it in.

my widshield used to buzz at 5K. now some other rattle at 8k. clutch adjusted with proper free play, but a bit of lever looseness, but not the source of rattle.
