Recovered stolen Ninja 250r.. Help with new ignition.
Hey guys, first post here so please let me know if I made a mistake. I just had my 2010 ninja 250r special edition (red/black/tribals) stolen right from my front door on mothers day. The police recovered it Tuesday night and I finally got it back on Wednesday night. They spray painted the entire bike, took pieces of the fairing off, and completely busted the ignition and the bolts. I just ordered a new ignition the other day and its says it should be here tomorrow but I literally have no clue on how to install it. They completely drilled the bolts out holding the ignition switch in so im not sure if that has any effect on it at all. Can someone please explain to me how I would go about installing this and if the bolts they drilled out matter for putting the new ign. in. Ive put the best pics up I could really get of it. Thanks for any help at all guys.

Hi Josh, welcome to Ninjette!
Sorry to hear about your bike. Thieves are lowest form of scum! Easiest to remove the upper triple-clamp so it can be clamped in vise. Then what you can do is drill out remaining secuity bolt. Use punch to make divot in centre and cobalt drill bit will remove it easily. Then remove old ignition. Tap holes for regular bolts to install new ignition. A locksmith can re-key your new ignition with wafers from your old ignition so your previous keys can operate all locks on bike. |

ok now I still have my main key and backup key for this ignition but the new ignition is coming with 2 new keys for the new gas cap, seat lock, and obviously ignition. Would I just be able to use the new keys once I replace all of them? Wasnt sure if you were saying I had to do that or if I wanted to keep the originals. Sorry I forgot to include they destroyed my seat lock also to get the items underneath my passenger seat. Thanks for answering though. That was a lot faster than I expected. I appreciate the help.

Ah, didn't realize you were replacing all locks. If so, then yeah, swap them all out and use new key.

So I managed to fully get the new ignition installed and I’m not getting any power what so ever when I turn the key.. any idea what might be causing this? I tried jumping the bike with my car and made sure the plug was fully inserted.. I’m still not getting any power at all. I do have the ignition pretty much just sitting in there at the moment. Wasn’t sure exactly how to get it to hold itself up again after I drilled out the security bolts. I was just more or less trying to make sure it would start. |

Pull all fuses and measure their resistance, including 30a main fuse by starter solenoid.
There is white wire delivering power to ignition switch. Measure voltage at that wire where it goes into ignition switch. Should be same as at battery. |

Good job repairing your bike!
Thieves probably blew that fuse trying to hot-wire bike. Eeediots! |
