So for the first time I left my key in my bike which drained the battery. Only option I had to get home from work was to jump from a car. Left the car off and it started right up. Drove about 3 miles to the gas station to fill up, when I went to turn bike back on the battery was drained again. Had to call AAA to come jump me again, which the bike started up immediately again, but when I was at stop lights the lights would flicker and the rpm needle was bouncing. One thing I did notice though is that my tach issue seems to have fixed itself, rpm's were actually showing normal for once when in 6th. When I got home I put the battery on a trickle charger overnight. Put battery back in this moring to go to work and the damn thing still won't start. There is a little juice going to the bike, but not enough to crank it over, horn sounds like a duck on its last breath. Now I don't know what to do. the battery is OEM from when I bought the bike in September. charger said it was fully charged, so what the hell is going on? anyone have an idea? bad battery?

3 miles wouldn't be enough to charge a dead battery, so I'm not surprised that it wouldn't start at the station. Next time make sure you're riding it at least 20 - 30 minutes at highway speeds for it to have a reasonable charge.

But - if it was on a trickle charger all night that appeared to charge it fully, if it didn't start the bike the next day when properly attached, my vote is bad battery. If the battery is faulty, it can cause all types of strange issues, perhaps including inconsistent performance and the weirdness you are seeing with your gauges. I'd get a new battery.

Do you think that it is something covered under warranty? after ig to it jumped the second time by aaa, I was on highway for about 20 min, and when I got home I turned it off and immediately tried to turn back on, nothing. My charger is supposed to be able to tell if the battery is crap, but guess I will take to autozone to have tested. Sucks that dealers around here are closed sunday and monday's since I can't work on it right now due to being at work

I wouldn't expect a battery to be covered under warranty. If the bike was brand new, perhaps, but it's a wear item.

What you might want to do is check your battery terminal connections. If you are able to get the bike running again, check the voltage at the terminals to make sure the bike is charging the battery. The stock battery is usually pretty good if maintained properly. I've had mine 4 year so far and not a problem.

Typically they aren't, but components do fail from time to time. If they are allowed to go dead, it sometimes affects them poorly. The OEM batteries are Yuasa, which are generally well-regarded.

The Schumacher Model XM1-5, thios is the charger I have and it showed that battery was charged. there is no corrosion on the terminals or the wires, very clean. I am guessing that going completely dead and the heat here in houston has just fired the battery. will now more tomorrow or tonight when I take the batery to autozone to have tested.

You don't have to go fast. Use 2nd or 3rd gear and make sure you jump down of the seat so the rear wheel does just skid.

Also, make sure you are ready when it fires so you don't stall it or the bike doesn't take off on you.

Slim chance of getting it to bump start with a dead battery. Even if you do get it started, it won't run right. These bikes need a functioning battery to run properly. You can get a new yuasa for like $45. Stop dicking around with testing and chargers and buy a new battery.

I was able to bump start my 250 fine with a dead battery multiple times. That tach goes a little crazy but that's all

2 months ago I thought my battery was shot after having all the same symptoms your is having and it testing bad so I ordered 2 Battery tender junior's and a new Yuasa. I got the tenders 2 days later but the battery was going to be another 2 days So I put the bad battery on the tender for 2 strait days and when the new battery showed up I tested the old battery one last time just because and lone behold it worked. I'm still currently using my the original battery and I plug it into the tender over night on the weekends and all is good so far. Since the Yuasa's are sold with the battery acid not installed it's life cycle hasn't started so I just keep it on the shelf just in case.

You could always have something wrong with your charging system but that's a lot less common the bad batteries.

Oh and just encase your wondering if you can get Yuasa then that's what you want their stuff is the most reliable 99.9% of the time. Sorry to hear your the 0.01%

this is for the 2008, YTX7-bs, the 2009-2012 takes the ytx9-bs. Little more expensive

Mine dropped a cell just because it had completely drained a few nights before (same thing, left the key in the ignition).

It doesn't take much to throw a little bike battery through a loop

then jumping it from a car is even riskier.
Next time try bump-starting if you're by a hill?

Not to many hills around here, but I am going to practice it once up and running. Took battery to auto zone, showed it was only at 6.4 v. Its on their big ass charger overnight. Will see what that does.

I left my bike in the "on" position in my garage for 3 days. After that, no response from my 300 - no lights on tach or sound of EFI.

I borrowed a Battery Tender Jr, removed my battery from the bike and plugged it in for 2.5 days. After 2 days, the indicator showed "100%" charged - probably 100% of whatever useful cells that were left.

I replaced the battery and took it for a long drive, followed by many short stints. Overall, started ~10 times that day. Started fine this weekend as well.

BTW, the trickle charger is the way to go for dead mc lead sulfate batteries. Don't know what AutoZone has. Good luck!

I dunno if i'd buy a battery tender brand charger.

I have a 6 phase 6/12v with 2A, 4A and 6A charger with a de-sulphation cycle.

This is good enough to charge motorbikes on a 2A charge, cars on a 4A charge and my boat's bank on a 6A charge.

It's more economical for me to do it this way, and if you own a car / scooter / boat etc also it may be a better option for you also.

But yeah, be nice to your lead acid batteries, it's a good idea if you're prone to stupidity to fit a low voltage piezo alarm to your bike, less than $4 worth of materials and it will remind you before you kill your bike.
