Speedo not working
Hi everyone,
I just bought a 2008 last Thursday and everything on it runs great except for the speedo. When I first bought it, it worked. But after two rides, the speedo, tach, and odometer all stopped working. I looked around on here and read a couple of threads about the cable. Sure enough, it was completely disconnected. I reconnected it, and now the tachometer works **most of the time** and the odometer works all of the time, but the speedo is still dead. Any suggestions? I've searched through the threads and have noted how to reattached the cable, which I've done, but it seems weird that tach and odo work, but not speedo. |

The spedometer is cable driven. It's connected to the front wheel hub and to the back of the guage. Make sure that both ends have the metal blade that fit into the hub.
Check the connections behind the guage. Most likely they're dirty or loose since you're having problems with the 3. Speedo and odometer operate off the speedo cable (mechanical). Tach is electrical.

Thanks for the fast response, guys. I did reconnect the cable, but you're saying I should make sure that the blade went in right? Is it possible to attach the cable but still have it fit wrong?
Also, should I take off the front fairing before I do this? |

I want to say you can still attach the cable but it won't screw all the way in if the blade is not aligned with the hub. It's been a while since I have taken it apart.
You don't have to remove the whole front fairing. You can just look under the fairing and see the back of the gauges. Might be a tad cumbersome to work with but it's doable.

Well I just got back from lunch. On my trip out and my trip back, the speedo worked flawlessly.
Weird. |
