What is it with the weather-peeps?

The local weather guy predicted that we wouldn't get any rain until later tonight. So I decided I'd hop on my singlespeed fixie (my new bicycle, a single speed, fixed gear; pedals always move when the wheels move, whether you want them to or not). Kind of chilly with the winds, so I put on my lightweight cycling jacket. I headed out.

I stopped by and snagged some food from a local place 6 miles away. Tossed the jacket in my bag since I was warmer from riding. Then hit the bank to deposit a check. When I left the bank, I noticed that I was feeling some light rain. So I pulled out the jacket again and went to the LBS to see if they had the same seat I run on my Trek 1.5. It was drizzling the entire way. Got over there, got my seat (I am now $170 poorer), and installed it. Then headed home. It was still drizzling.

Why oh why is it sooooo hard to predict the weather? If you are in doubt, throw a 20% chance number out there. If you don't put anything, I'm going to think there is nothing. Bastids!

Oh well, I still got a decent 20 mile ride in. Just ate lunch. I'll let it sit and hop on my trainer in a bit to log another 20-30 miles. Gotta train for that MS150 on April 17th.

I usually go by the radar. If it's raining to the west (or any other direction) and it's traveling in my direction, I usually don't take the chance.

I normally do that, but when you are lazy (like I can be at times) you look via your phone. The radar just takes too long to load.

North America (particularly the USA) has the most turbulent weather patterns in the world. If you want to predict the weather with accuracy, go to Europe. If you want to challenge yourself and learn everything there is to know about how much and quickly weather can change, come to the USA. I should also note that we are the only country in the world to have all types of climates from arctic to desert to swamp to grassland to rain forest, etc etc. So not only are the people and culture in the USA diverse, so is the weather and the land.

I know we have some weird weather here. I can watch radar and pretty much do my own predicting. I just need an app on my iPhone that allows me to just see the radar. That would make it much easier. lol

I guess I think they are trying to break down the weather too much. When you pull it up and see that rain isn't supposed to arrive until 6pm, and then it is there at noon, it makes you think they can't predict weather. I remember when I was a kid...they'd predict early morning, noon and evening. That is it. I liked it better back then. lol

Yah, I have to agree with you on that one. This trying to predict the time of the weather is stupid. Weather and mother nature are very chaotic and tend to change at the drop of a hat here for some reason.
