[topix.net] - France: ATGATT Shortly Mandatory?

It looks like the debate that is happening in some places in the world about the mandatory use of helmets on motorcycles is so minor compared to the one that France is going to have...... .... helmets are mandatory, as is the case in all other European countries, but the French want to go for the next step.

I wonder how well mandatory ATGATT would go over in the United States.

Here's the deal, in france they get a lot of british people going over to ride, the gendarmes will pull you over and will go through every single piece of mandatory equiptment including TWO disposable certified pocket breatherlisers, first aid kit to regulations, helmet reflective stickers etc....

These laws do nothing for the farmer that rides his peugeot moped in no gear to the boulangerie on a saturday, it's a "gotcha" for the tourists so they can slap you with a massive fine.

As well as a possible firearms regulation, I guess...

Some will be happy, some will not care but for some it would be time to lauch a rebellion...

The only issue I have with the full gear they're considering is the requirement for jackets/vests with airbags. That's not exactly common...

As far as I know france already has mandatory hi-vis, mandatory reflective patches on helmets, and bans bikes over 100bhp being sold there.

French bikers seem to bend over & take it up the ass. The federation of angry bikers must be a total joke...

A slow rolling protest to shut down every major city at rush hour should make their opinions known (that or drag whoever comes up with these ideas out for an appointment with the national razor )

It wouldn't. Too many riders that wouldn't stand for it. ATGATT may make sense on a sport bike, but on a cruiser, half the fun is the wind on your face, in your hair, on your arms, etc. Depending on the type of riding you are doing, it's not really all that dangerous, either.
