How Many Ex-Ninjettes Miss Their Little Bike?

So I sold my Ninjette back in December and bought a Harley Sportster. I really am enjoying the Sportster. It's a more relaxed ride and I've set it up more for touring with a wide comfortable seat, windshield and highway pegs. I've put almost 3,000 miles on it since late December, we've had a pretty warm winter here.

My son's unit deployed about a month ago for a three month exercise. Before he left he brought over his Ninjette. Signed the title and told me to sell it for him while he was gone, and he would buy a bigger bike when he came back.

I figured I'd get a better price for the bike if I waited until the weather was warmer, so I parked it in the garage.

Yesterday I was working on the Sportster and had the garage clean enough to drag his Ninjette out. I figured it needed to be run once in a while. So I fired it up and went for a little ride.

I'd already forgotten what a blast these little bikes are to ride. So light an nimble. And the surprising thing was after riding a bike with almost 4 times this displacement it really didn't feel under powered. Just had the remember to keep the RPMS up.

So how many of you ex Ninjettes miss your old bike?

Sounds like you ought to pay your son for it and title it in your name, Tom. I have a couple bigger, faster motorcycles, but don't see a reason to ever give up the 250 for the same reasons you said. Take it for a ride on the Dragon sometime.

Oh yeah, all the time. I wouldn't have sold it if there were room in my marriage for an additional bike.

I still have one left in the garage after this one sells.

My first Ninja 250 was an 05 model with 2k miles, purchased in 2010 for $450 since it had salvage title, body plastic damage and forks were misaligned in the triples.
I fixed it up, ran it for little over 4k miles and sold it for $800 in 9 months.

My current Ninja was purchased back in 2014 for $800, 8k mi. clean title and needed tires. Now it has over 18k mi. and I keep it as my designated commuter within NYC 5-boroughs and between NYC & Phila. on the highways. I think I will put another set of tires on it this year.. maybe change out the OEM chain/sprockets.. valves were done last year at 16k mi. so maybe skip it this year.

The operating cost for Ninja 250 is so low, it's a keeper if you have the space.
I use it as a "ride it and forget it" kind of bike.

Yesterday my daughter filled up the 250 with gasoline at $2.069 per gallon. That means the cost of fuel is currently about 3 cents per mile.

Both my wife and I were uncomfortable enough on the 250s that it didn't make sense to keep either of them. That being said, it was a great bike and if I could have stretched it about 2" in every direction I would still have one!

I say buy it from your kid. I've had Superbikes & 600's, but never sold my 250. Maybe in the future I will buy another bike, but it will most likely be a Sportster 48.

I don't think I will ever sell my 250. It's not worth much anyway, I would lose the excitement of having a lightweight motorcycle for a lousy $2k. I might as well keep it.

I'm hoping Kawasaki comes out with a new 500. The old 500 bikes were nice as well, rode one the other day and it felt quicker than Honda's new 500.

Well,

I've just sold my Ninjette less than two hours ago and I already miss it... As I was riding it to the buyer house, I couldn't believe it was my last ride with it...

Money wise, it's not "intelligent" for me to have two motorcycles at the same time... So I had to let go the Ninjette if I wanted to put my hands on something more "adventure" oriented...

Still undecided about the next one... Will it be a Versys-X 300, a CRF250 Rally, a BMW G310GS or the venerable KLR650... As of right now, only the Kawasaki are available right now in the dealership... No words from Honda ans the BMW dealer says it might be around the end of the year or maybe at the end of the riding season...

I'll see how long I can stay without a motorcycle now the season is started...

The Versys seems like it would be a nice easy adventure bike.

But I love my KLR and have for the last 35,000 miles!

Absolutely. A two bike garage will definitely boast a pre-gen 250, a perfect little scoot with all the heart and spirit of motoring.

I told myself I'd upgrade when this little bike blew up. I figured that'd be in a couple years. It's been a couple years and it has no signs of slowing down now. I want something more pleasant to go on the highway with (possibly an SV) but I'm not eager to get rid of my ninjette. It still teaches, it still forgives, and is always fun.

Missed mine so much i sold the sporty i got and now have 2 ninjettes.

When we get a house and have the space i'll get another bike but the 300 is so cheap to own i'll probably just have it in the stable always.

So you had to be the one to make that Craigslist post: my son was deployed so that's why I'm selling cause it was his bike but don't worry he signed the title but no I'm not the legal owner...

I don't miss my ninjette but that's probably because I ride a KLX250 supermoto every day but I love it for the same reasons you love a ninja 250- lightweight, nimble, comfortable, fun! Mine sounds and looks way better though! If I only had big heavy bikes, I'm sure I would miss a ninja 250!

I always thought about getting a new Ninjette, there's one in my neighborhood and I just love the looks. Bummer I can only afford one bike though and my Triumph occupies that space.

I didn't have that in the craigslist post.

I did put something like that in an e-mail reply to someone.

Still have the Ninja for now, but no, not missing out on riding it. Getting comfortable on the Honda and finding that I can do just that bit "more" that the Ninja lacked. I've ridden the Ninja a few times since I broke the 100k miles on it, and each time I end up thinking "Damn, this bike is small!" and while I settle back into riding it easily and smoothly, I end up missing the advantages that I see the Honda having over it.

Maybe if I had made a larger jump from the Ninja to whatever, I would find myself missing more things about it. But the CB500X, IMO, took what I love about the Ninja and added just that little bit more to make it perfect for me.
