anyone try this type of helmet, 3/4 to full transformer type lol

i tried one on at a bike shop they wanted $200 it felt very chincy and cheap,.
same exact one i found online for cheaper.

any thoughts? seems to make it easier to put the helmet on and take a breather at a light.

Never had any problem with a normal full face helmet. Wouldn't trust my head to anything less.

Haven't seen a modular helmet that met ECE or SNELL ratings. I'm not satisfied with only DOT certification.

I ordered one as my first NEW helmet a few months after I started riding...I still have it as a back up. I liked it ok, ESPECIALLY for the price I paid for it. My only complain is that the padding inside went "flat" pretty quick. Now the helmet feels too big which is probably NOT as safe as a $300 helmet...just remember, you get what you pay for!

What's your idea of cheap? I've never owned a $700 helmet. There are plenty of quality helmets out ther for less than $300.

BTW I've only heard bad things about that brand.

If all the $300 ones feel cheap, either your head is incredibly sensitive or I've been using a helmet slightly above crap.
Scorpion Exo 1000 are being sold for about $100 now.

A $30 helmet? Yah. Good luck with that in a crash.

Look, put this in perspective. Hitting your head in a crash can be something like getting whacked with a baseball bat. Not that I've ever gone down that hard or gotten hit with a baseball bat, mind you, but the analogy probably isn't that far off.

When you look at a helmet, think about that. Features/color/badassedness are all meangingless. What matters is staying out of a wheelchair. That's why you wear a helmet in the first place, right?

Get a half helmet and eyewear then. Or ditch the eye protection and hope a bug doesn't hit you.

Ill just say this.
For years, I wore a Fulmer modular helmet. Which had a flip up front on it.
And yes, I throughly tested it.

Highsided and the first part of me to hit the ground was the helmet....directly on the chin.

The helmet did its job, like I expected it to. I walked away with a little cut on my chin, a slight concussion and minimal road rash.

All this bull pucky about modular helmets not being sufficient is wrong. Provided that they are from a reputable manufacturer they are perfectly capable of protecting your noggin.

I wear a Schuberth C3w and, having just been in a crash, will say it performed admirably and I have no complaints. It's expensive, yes, but it fit my face way better than anything else I tried and they used the modular design to create a pretty good seal around the neck, which makes it super duper quiet. Plus they've been great since the accident -- if I'd gotten a police report I'd qualify for a replacement at a major discount, and even though I didn't get one they're working with me (probably won't be as cheap though).

Invincibility has been tested as faulty. But even a $30 lid is better than no lid.

That pretty much sums up why I wear clothes most of the time.

ATGATT. Not wearing a helmet is a bold political statement. And like almost all political statements, it's flat-out stupid.

The only good modular helmet is schuberth and yes it meets ECE

+1 I wore a modular for a little while, and I know a number of folks that do. I see nothing wrong with them for day to day use.

here.

If you're looking for a helmet just to be legal and don't want to spend a butt-ton, check out Scorpion helmets. I have used an exo400, and I liked it a lot. It was a quality lid at an affordable price.

I recently acquired an EXO1000 and I love it so far. The sizing is identical to my 400, and it has some nice features. Can't beat a good helmet for $109 shipped. SNELL and DOT certified.

It's YOUR HEAD MAN - mine has a brain inside it - I LOVE MY BRAIN - maybe rabies head doesn't contain a brain (or it's defective). I sometimes don't wear my seatbelt cause I'm absentminded. I ALWAYS wear a helmet, gloves and since I dumped the bike in june and got a good case of road rash (at only 20MPH) I always wear my riding jacket. I'll get some riding pants soon too.

Current wearing an HJC full face with a bunch of scuffs on the chin bar. I'm switching to a modular soon, probably a Nolan or a Schuberth. Both are rated highly. Only reason I'm getting a modular is because of the ease of getting something to my mouth without removing the hlmet.

The May '12 issue of "rider" magazine tested 10 Modular Helmets. Worth a read.

Rabie... protect your head man.... but I do stand behind your freedom to not wear a brain bucket... even if I think it's kind of a dumba** thing to do.

I have a shark evoline2, and honestly its not my favorite. The strap is already worn out after 6 months. Very disappointed for what the stupid thing cost. I switched back to my 2 year old Scorpion Exo-1000.

Here is one reason why you shouldn't buy a cheap 'no name' helmet:

Well worth taking 2.5 minutes to watch this video, for both entertainment and education....
At least watch it until about the 1min 10sec mark.

Classic demo of a "helmet shaped object" Fortunately here in Europe (Germany is particularly picky) we have 'type approval' regulations where items like this are tested before the can be sold. I hope the US has something similar, because, frankly, with the RZO you would be safer in an ostrich egg.
