gsxr damper easy mod

Well I wanted a damper but I really did not want to spend 300-400$$$$ on one, so I order a damper off of an gsxr off eBay for 25Bucks and a protek fork clamp $41 shipped.
As you can see in the pics you will lose a little at full lock left to right I just glued a nut on each side so I wouldn't bend or bottomed out the damper. I also did not want to drill holes in the stay so I ran a bolt with a bracket down to the damper, the only mod that needs to be done is to remove the speedo cable loop,I am making a bracket that will hold up to the stress the one in the pic is something I came up with just to see if this will work

Thinking outside the box!

Looks like you could use a "standoff" type of piece maybe to support the strut housing against the frame a bit?

Looks good. I like the fact that it is installed at the bottom which is somewhat hidden and does not "clutter" the top of the steering.

Well so far no and yes. no B/C this bike just dose not need it I have been riding with it for about 200 miles and it makes the steering feel sluggish, so I went to 5 weight oil and it really did not help, and yes it’s a steering damper so it will help if you get any head shake or hit a nasty pot hole. this was just something that I wanted to try and see if I could pull it off with little to no money out of pocket and I was thinking of making an adapter so anyone could buy the gsxr damper and put it on are bikes easily with out having o spend way to much on like a hyper pro or gpr

I can see that you attached one end of the damper to the fork using a bracket. I am not sure what you are doing with the other end. Can you post up some clearer pictures please?

You can see the bolt and small threaded plate in the last two pictures.

Very nicely done.

Tip: Put your camera on macro mode if you want to take picture up close (prevent back focused like some of your pics) lol...

First of All, thanks for the thread. I did the same to mine. the difference is that I drilled and tapped a m6 x 1.0 hole and used a socket instead of a glued nut.

I also changed the oil for some 20w and it's perfect for me.

I used an M8x1.25 bolt, m10 nut as a spacer ans 2 M8 nuts to sandwitch the damper. The bracket is sloted to engage in the sheet metal and be secure.

Thanks again.

Awesome mod, thanks! I was looking for some sort of steering-damper and ones for 250 were quite pricey with questionable mounting. This takes care of it me!
