How much would you pay to take miles off your odometer?
Hey just a question that went through my mind. How much would you pay to have 1,000, 5,000 or 10,000 miles off your odometer? And to have the youthfulness of your bike back?

I would not pay a dime. I view the 26,000 miles on my bike as a badge oh honor. My bike is still as youthful as the day I bought her.

Does that really work? If you roll back your speedometer your bike gets better (like new). That's the coolest thing I've ever heard. Is it a magic pill that you put in the gas tank? Do you cover your bike with a secret cloak, then when you pull the cloak off it's new with less miles? Do you rub a special cream on the tank and the bike just turns new. Tell me, tell me, tell me. I can't wait. Tell me now!

I'm with Motofool, whatever it cost for a new one. Only paid $2200 for my 08 with 6900 miles on it. Maybe go with a 300 next time around.

My understanding is that compared to a car they do wear out faster. Keep in mind, the new-gens suggest checking valve clearances at 7.5K, which is twice a year if you put on the same mileage the average American does on a car, but I have NEVER checked valves on a car.... and I drive older ones.
However, if properly maintained (and ridden like an adult), they can take you over 100K miles.... that's what I've been told anyways. If you're asking because I implied I changed my engine early, that was purely due to user error.... I was OCD about maintenance early on, and broke it in the process. I hugged and wiped it's butt too hard. Many lessons learned, but somehow still cheaper that taking it to the stealership for service. This is my first bike, so experience is limited to 37K miles, my garage, empty bank account, and this forum.

They pretty much fall apart over 10k
10k miles on a bike = 100k miles on a car. It has to do with the fact that motorcycle odometers only go up to 100,000 while car odometers go up to 1,000,000. Some simple math and you can see why many people don't ride their bikes often and instead leave them in the garage. They don't want to ruin them with too many miles. It's pretty rare to see a bike for sale with over 10k miles and with good reason, its rare for them to make it that high

Yes and no. A bike that is neglected will for sure start to suck, forks oil gets old, engine starts running like ****, doesnt start well... Etc... But if a bike is kept in great condition then its likely hood of feeling the same at 1 mile and 100k miles

would i pay to have nothing physically actually changed on my bike, outside of some number somewhere? no.
would i pay to have someone take away my well-worn bike and replace it with the same thing, but brand new? no. would i pay to have someone take my bike, spend many hours perfecting and polishing the changes i made, exactly to my specifications? sure, if they only charged a few bucks an hour and were hard and competent workers. (in other words: not gonna happen)

Jiggles was 82% kidding, I hope. Proper care and maintenance can take just about any bike well into 6-digit miles. The problem is that it costs money and time to keep up on all of that maintenance, and since bikes are generally inexpensive anyway, the payback for keeping one running forever isn't great.
