Big Ass Group Ride! June 25th

Ok so @setasai and I are doing a group ride from San Jose, CA to New York. The details are a little fuzzy but it should be about 3 weeks. I'm still not sure if we're going through Canada or Texas but let me know if you want to come for at least part of the journey!

We are leaving June 25th though so be on time!

Ah but I'm supposed to work on the 24th!! I literally used all of my vacation days for this trip lol, I'll see if I can work something out with my boss.
@choneofakind, it's dependent on setasai since he only has a limited time off of school we had to plan it around his days off.

So we're going to ride to New York and then I'm going to fly back and ship my bike back and he's going to stay there for school. I'd ride back if I could but I just didn't have enough vacation days

Well I guess I could ride back but then I'd likely lose my job and that would cost even more!

What's wrong with OH? I-90 is really only busy if you hit it during rush hour. That's when it gets fun.

Remember Jiggs, no lane splitting

If it's only three of you, I'd still lane split.

Chone, I'm referring to how straight, boring and windy it can be. I just rode through there on my way to Chicago from NY. That part kinda blows. I guess it would be more fun on a liter bike. You can see the LEOs from pretty far away

OHhh, that makes more sense. Yeah when I drive from Cleveland to Ada for school, I head south to Mansfield then across 30. It gets straight, flat, windy, and boring. Not a terrible drive, just boring. Once you get to Mansfield heading NE, it gets a little less drab.

Hello all. It's been a super long time since I've logged in here. Been pretty much living at school sleeping on tables.

Anyways, Alex, when do you need to be in Pittsburgh? It's not set in stone but the route I intend on taking is very scenic. Probably up the coast to seattle and then head across through some of the northern states, hit up the great lakes and niagra falls and such on my way. Pittsburgh probably wont be till at least a week into the trip.

The trip looks to last approximately 20-22 days. If anybody has cities, towns, or sights that we should stop by please let us know.

I dont have a problem with anybody that wants to join us on the trip but the schedule is pretty tight so just keep that in mind. Also, I wouldnt really call this a group ride... more like a small group long distance touring ride.

Aw man, that's a trip I want to take (though continuing on up into New Bruswick). However, I seriously don't have that kind of vacation days (I'm jealous, @Jiggles, wha the hell??)

Will you two be posting plans or prep work here and updating so I can travel virtually with you??

I need to be in Pittsburgh as soon as I can, so I'm hoping by Wednesday night / Thursday morning at the latest. It's not a touring trip, I'm heading there for the start of the IBR. I need to get close to town, then get an oil change, and probably a new rear (if not front) tire to start the rally fresh. If you all are heading up the coast before heading over, I'm not sure this is compatible. (though your trip certainly sounds more scenic and relaxing! )

Hey, I'm only thinking 800-900 per day on the way out, to take it easy before the real fun starts.

I think I'll need a Corbin to do that. That, and a few other mods to the bike

How many miles per day are you looking at Jigs and setasai?

I did about 660 in one day and that kinda hurt. It was cold and raining most of the way.

Nice! Very manageable. Riding Cross Country has been a dream of mine for a very long time. I like to keep picking up helpful hints and tips from others who have done it before. Try to keep a log of your day to day activities including a small bit of inspection of the bike every day or so.

Also: pics, pics and more pics.

T-clocks. I know for a fact, many people just don't do it. It is extremely important since you would be far from home. But I'm no expert. Alex probable knows what to do for these kinds of trips.

Looks at calendar again...

Hey wait, I'm actually planning on taking a road trip up north to Oregon on the 30th, then head over to Spokane for the the 4th of July. If you guys are still in the area, and schedules line up, I'll cruise with you for a bit.

If you happen to be dumb enough to come across I-90, let me know; I'll join up for a while in Montana.

OK, so it's not that it's dumb - the ride through OR and WA that gets you to 90 is fabulous. It's Montana and the Dakotas that suck.

Hey wait, I'm actually planning on taking a road trip up north to Oregon on the 30th, then head over to Spokane for the the 4th of July. If you guys are still in the area, and schedules line up, I'll cruise with you for a bit.
Cool!
