Race bike mods
Long time lurker, first time poster. Actually not entirely true, i'm not a long time lurker. I just sold my 600RR race bike and bought a race 250R. I've got a couple questions that I haven't really been able to nail down yet.
tell me why I need to keep these (circled in red) on the front stay. I seem to recall before I tore the bike apart that they did nothing and look like they'll just punch through the fairing in a crash. I want to install a quick turn throttle. I think I can a get a motion pro revolver like I had on my old bike, but i'll need a new kill switch. Is the motion pro kill switch the only option or is there another model that I can install instead? I hate the all the useless control pods. Can i do away with the choke one? how do you go about modding the choke cable for use. I've read something about a zip tie but I haven't seen a picture and to be honest that seems kinda hoky, I don't want to have to stand around holding the choke open. thanks in advance for the replies, I'm sure this has been covered before. |

Welcome to lil' bike racing!
That's exactly what happened with me. Cut them off or something, they're mounts for the turn signals. |

I'm sure someone else can help you out on your other questions, those little frame bits are just things I know quite well so I wanted to chime in, haha.

1. upper fairing support. you can get rid of them if you want if you maintain the other upper mounts by where the mirrors previously went.
2. ebay or just leave the stock switch on. 3. safety wire from the choke on the carb out to the side. pull on safety wire to activate choke while starting.

as yes, ebay. but is there a specific model? for example on my 600RR I used an RC51 switch.

i just put a long zip tie in the cable pull for the choke and it sticks like 1/2 inch out of the fairing, grab it with fingers and pull, wouldn't know it was there if I didnt tell you lol

I used an R1 start/stop switch with my motion Pro Revolver Kit. Got for $15 shipped off ebay.
Safety wire off choke rail to left side bike. I've only had to use my choke when its below 50 degrees out. Cut as much as you can off the fairing stay!

Regarding the choke, yes remove the pod and choke cable. Like most of the other guys, I simple safety wired my choke lever from the carb. Usually I'll only need to pull on it for 5ish seconds when starting the race bike for the first time in the morning.

Only 5ish seconds? Seems like the bike is running really rich. Or mine is still really lean with 112 mains...
