Exclamation Mad Hornet's flushmount front turn signal

Okay I know what your say, "not another flush mount that doesn't even come close to fitting the OEM area"

Well if you've been here awhile, then you've heard the tales of the old AsianCycle flush-mounts, and how great they where, but like so many great accessories for our beloved 88~07 Ninjas', they have faded away, leave everyone trying to find them on the used market with little or no success.

Well my fellow forum members, they have returned!!!! Kinda. A company called Mad Hornets is supplying them again, or at least a copy of the AsianCycle flush-mounts. I have ordered myself a pair, to not only use, but for the propose to review.

They were $24.99 USD, and free shipping, they offer them in black/smoke & chrome/clear. I ordered the clear, because all my others are clear, and it goes well with my color scheme.

So now I wait for the postman like I'm waiting on Santa, I shall return with a full write up, a blog entry, and my final verdict.

I've been seeing them all along, but AsianCycle would paint them to OEM spec. Also, smoke tail lights went the way of the dodo for a while.

Agreed, but something is better than the ones that don't even fit.

These look great for a very good price. Please let us all know how they are when they arrive; fit and finish, fitment to the faring, wiring, etc.

UPDATE 01/16/15

they are here, showed up on the 23rd, and they look as they do in the pictures.

They remind me of truck clearance lights, with a thin piece of plastic to fill in the fairing indent, but it doesn't appear to be nearly thick enough maybe. Also they are just plain black thin plastic, so to keep my color scheme, they will be painted.

But one small problem for yours truly, they are 2 wire, which means no running lights, as I have modified my other aftermarket set to allow me to run the switch back CREE LEDs

Okay I converted the two wire socket to three wire, it was fairly simple, do to the socket was just pressfit, I had to use the three wire socket from another light, but it fit like new. Also painted backing plates.

Why I'm doing this is so I can use the switch back CREE LEDs.

Now I need is warm day to install them.

UPDATE 01/21/15

Installation time,
Warm weather today, so they are finally on, and all wired up.

Installation does require some trimming of the fairing but it's behind the housing, so you even if you wanted to put the OEM ones back on, your safe.

The final fit and finish, is okay, the backing plates seem too thin, but are required to cover up the OEM front mounting hole. Wiring is as simple as splicing the wires up.

Final verdict:
They do look good, and seem to flow with the lines of the bike. The backing plates do their job, but being I'm a bit of a nut, I'm going to fabricate some new ones using the old rear fender as the donor for me the materials.

If your looking for a better looking aftermarket turn indicators, look no further than Mad Hornets.

I was thinking of painting them, but decided against it. The chrome goes nicely with the OEM chromed mufflers.

Are the regular bulbs bright enough and do I have to slice and dice the wires for normal install? What LED setup did you use.

The bulbs that come with them were clear, and smaller than a standard 1156, if your going to change them to LEDs, pick a compact one, like these,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-12V-115...394398&vxp=mtr

The ends are not OEM, so you can either cut the OEM ones of the turn signals themselves, and splice them to the new ones, or order the connector,

http://www.cycleterminal.com/050-connectors.html

http://www.corsa-technic.com/categor...category_id=91

Lastly I converted mine from 2 to 3 wire so they are also running lights now, and make the use of the switch back CREE LEDs.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/181631980179...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Hope this answers your questions.

RIDE REPORT

Took is out tonight and the worked perfectly as planned.

They added nice illumination to the sides, even to the front of the bike while in running light mode(white).

In turn signal mode, along with the added flush mounts the're is a lot of amber light now, and the flush mount LEDs light up the sides nicely as well.

Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the modifications.

Took some pictures, they don't do the modifications any justice, but you get the idea, just know they are brighter IRL

I assume you used a different socket for the three wire setup. Is this correct, and if so, where did you get them? I'm an electrical dummy and need all the help I can get!

NP, I had the old aftermarket ones which were 3 wire already, so I just persuaded the MAD Hornets 2 wire socket out, via needle nose pliers, and cut the three wire socket off the other ones with a help for Mr Dremel.

Some very minor grinding, and press them into the MAD Hornets sleeve, now void of the original two wire socket.

Some have asked where I got the power source from for the running lights? I tied them into the instrument panel light circuit, since they are LEDs not much more load added, especially when I also converted those to LEDs as well.

Any more questions, let me know

amber bulbs

I just ordered these in clear and requested in the order comments to please send with 2 amber bulbs (I'm not going for the running light/turn signal combo). I'll let you all know how that works out (if they fulfill my request or not).

All else fails, order some 1156 amber CREE LEDs, just keep in mind the small size of the bulbs.

My use of mine I had to install a new 1157 sockets, and add a wire for running lights.
