Puig Double bubble windshield

I'm getting ready to buy my aftermarket bad a$$ windshield for my super cool bike, but i'm torn as to which color to get. My 2010 ninja is red and I'm thinking about getting the red windshield, or the black or even the dark smoke. What do you guys think? If anyone can photoshop my bike with those tints i'd really appreciate it

i'll do this later this afternoon. fyi, i spray painted my stock windscreen - that's what i would do if you're only concern is looks. personally, i don't have any wind issues from the stock screen as i'm in full tuck 90% of the time i ride, (30 minute commute on freeway at 70-80 mph). i also subscribe to the philosophy that free/cheap is good.

you're never gonna be tucked down so low that you're actually looking through the screen. mine is totally blacked out and even in full tuck i'm looking over the top.

Well that should be your first question. Do you actually tuck that low and how often? Usually never for me on the 250 but often on the 1000RR. Triple digit speed is usually the only time I'm in full tuck looking thru the shield.

My vote is for red to match the color of the bike. Having it the same color of the bike makes the bike look a tad bit bigger and gives it that "mean" look. I have a black ZG double bouble on my bike which is a bit taller than stock and as others have said, even in a full tuck I never see through it but above it. Sit on your bike with it on a rear stand or the kickstand and put yourself into a tucked position and see what you think.

good points...ya i never get tucked in, and doubt i ever will..

another question...do these windshield reflect light? my bf's friend told me that some windshield don't reflect sunlight, and he's known people to park the bike in the sun and when came back out, they noticed some of the instruments slightly melted from the hot sun...wtf?

that was my whole idea of wanting the red...but I can't visualize it without pics.

how do you like the zero gravity? reviews weren't that great, thats why i'm leaning more towards puig.

May also want to consider if you're going to use a video camera.

I have a Puig double-bubble in Smoke. I like the color well enough. Unsatisfied with the fit and will not buy Puig products.

This has in fact happened to a 1000RR I seen with my own eyes. I refused to believe it till then.

I have not had that problem with mine. A clear or even a smoke shaded windscreens will let the light come straight through to the instruments where as a dark colored windscreen may not reflect the light but will block it and even shade the instruments the same as dark sunglasses shade your eyes from the suns glare.

I don't think it has anything to do with color as much as it does shape.

After you see your bike photoshoped with the read I think you will be convinced.

I like both the fit and shape of the Zero Gravity. It has also helped a bit in directing the wind higher. Before the wind would hit me in the chest. Now it hits just above my helmet.

PAINT THE STOCK SCREEN! if you don't like red, you can switch to black - vice versa. blocks the sun, fit is perfect, etc, etc.

In that case a darker color will counter the effects of the shape. The reason why a magnifying glass can burn objects is for two reasons: 1) the shape that conentrates the suns rays and 2) because it is clear. If it was dark it would not have much less of an effect.

If I'm understanding correctly.....it actually occurs when the sun is coming from the back of the bike and the curved wind screen amplifies the sunlight to a confined spot. Works like the magnifying glass trick to start a fire I guess.

After reading those incidents with Puig screens and seeing that they come with a warning sticker I stand corrected as far as the Puig goes but my I have not had any problems with my ZG.

Red on red is way too much. U need to contrast colors to look cool. I've got the puig racing screen in smoke. Love the look! Puig warns of light intensity in the instructions. I use a tshirt over it when parked in sun. Other times I just park it angled away from sun. My dash still looks new. No problem with fitment either. Having everything in red upsets the visual balance of cool sportiness IMO. Love my puig screen!

I'm sure it could happen to any of the brands but it would have to be that rare case that your bike was pointed in the exact direction, and the exact time of the day the sun is at 38.789462131254862 degree's on the 3rd Saturday of odd numbered years.

Easy solution.... stay home that day.

ya i thought so too, but based on the pictures above, it looks like the red is tinted only on the top portion and the bottom is black, which i thought it looked neat. seems everyone has black or dark smoke, i wanted to be "different". :P But i don't want my bike to look stupid either...

seeing as though these windsheild are tinted, i'd think keeping the stock clear windshield would cause the same problem...no?

Seeing is believing... You will be able to make a better decision after seeing your bike photo shopped with the red and black side by side.

No I'm thinking the sunlight goes thru it instead of "bouncing" the light to the gauges. I haven't heard of any damage happening from stock wind screens.

I have a hotbodies db in dark smoke. I park outside in the sun and I have never had an issue. It's something to do with the sun beams being intensified to get fuage melting. I have only read about it occurring to Hondas maybe it has something to do with the angle of the windscreen and gauges.

A note on the red windscreen, they are technically illegal in Cali. Ryan and I had a chat with a CHP officer about colored windscreens since his Buell comes stock with a red one. Red, blue and yellow are not allowed because the sun can reflect through it and produce that colored light which is reserved only for emergency vehicles. He hasn't had an issue yet with cops on the colored windscreen but figured to let you know about that jut in case you encounter a cranky cop.

It happened to my 1000RR. The shape of the bubble does it (there's a warning with the Puig screens telling you that it might happen and you're SOL if it does).

Note the Ducati 907IE. The windscreen is non transparent plastic painted red from the factory. Rode with a friend the other day who has one (among many other bikes). He doesn't find it to be a distraction. BTW the bars are above the triple clamps on those bikes, so its not as "tucked" of a riding position, but more like a 250R.
