I hope this is the right section and I apologize if it isn't.

I am going to look at someone's like new 2012 red ninjette with 588 miles. If all checks out and the bike is fine what is the ball park value of this bike? I can't find anything consistent

I've seen them listed from 3500-4000. KBB Lists it as $3,855.

I paid 3800 for mine with 292 miles on it. How much is the asking price from the seller?

You didn't say, but I should mention if it's the SE model, the value does go up a little bit. KBB lists at $3,970. KBB prices are dealer prices as well, so private sales shouldn't be expected to be as high as that.

It's red so I don't think it is an SE. They are asking 3700 currently and I'm going to check it out tonight. It has an adjustable link and handlebar risers on it right now.

I got my 2012 candy lime green one with 1800 miles for $3600. that included the after market exhaust and frame sliders.

I'd use KBB values as reference but come in with something like $3000. You never know, he may be highly motivated to sell it, or just use it as a starting point in negotiating. Also, disregard aftermarket parts and upgrades from your negotiating price. Negotiate as if it were 100% stock. When I was looking for mine, it seemed like there were quite a few 250s in the panhandle, so supply & demand and such. Good luck, hope you get a great bike and great deal!

I wouldn't lowball him. Start with $3200 and pull the CASH out! I think about $3400 to $3500 would be a good deal and wouldn't be taking advantage of him.

I think $3500 would be the highest I'd go. I got my 1997 for $875 and don't regret it at all! Just keep in mind that some people want to sell their 250's after a year or so (like this guy).
