Bugs on your face shield
Today I went out for a nice ride and when I got to my destination and decide to head back home I had quite a bit of love bug splats on my shield. I did not anything with me to clean it off with and being in the middle of nowhere I had a few napkins in my pocket and had to resort to spitting on them to clean my shield partially. I did not get 20 miles out and got into a war zone with the bugs or so it seems and my shield was worse than it was going down.
What do you use when your out and you get attacked by bugs and have massive amounts of splats on your shield? Is there something I can use so that they wont stay on. I tried turning my head from side to side to see if the wind would blow them off and it did not work. I did not want to use my gloves to wipe them off, that is just "nasty" to me - yuck!!! Should I keep carrying napkins with me I am afraid it will scratch my shield, but in desperation this time I had to. |

I live by a 180 acre lake and truly feel your pain. Here is what I do. Get some small, cheap, white cotton handkerchiefs from the store and carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer. Dual purpose, sanitary hands and cleanish visor until I get home.

Thank you, they make the hand sanitizers small enough to fit in a pocket -- wonderful idea.
I will go out and get me a couple hankies this afternoon. |

I get eyeglass lens cleaner free from my optometrist. That and a microfiber cloth makes quick work of bugs on my face shield.
Never leave home without it.

It's sad that I know this but the hand sanitizer will also clean/prevent blood stains.

V2 sponge, I've been using one of these for over a year, it takes off even the biggest bastids that I've had splatter on mine with a quick rub. Don't know how easy it is to get in the states. |

I hear ya and it DOES SUCK!!! Usually its only right at dusk that this happens. I carry a small rag in the dash of the Ninja and TRY to rub what I can off but most of the time it just smears it all around. I have been trying to figure out the best way to clean the visor but have found nothing that I am satisfied with yet. I will definitely try hand sanitizer and see how that works.

Check the travel section of your local pharmacy or grocery store, they have those little travel packets of wipes that store nicely in a shirt pocket or backpack.

I found that treating the face shield with Turtle Wax Ice makes it easy to clean. I carry a small bottle of eyeglass cleaner and a microfiber cloth in my tank bag. The same applies to the windshield.

Wow, I have a lot of good suggestions, thank you so much for the ideas. I will have to try them and see what works.
I was also wondering about something that I could put on it to help it clean up easier, like Sailariel's idea of the wax to help with the cleaning. I do have a large container of glasses (lens) cleaner ninjamunky85, but I have to find a smaller one to carry with me they should have something in the travel section in stores. I do hear that I would be getting some protein and you are right about the saying similiar to what csmith12 grandfather of it would be nice to eat what bugs you or the more legs the better Monkeytofu and Jiggles - hmmm this should be in your "dinner" thread -- maybe a little spice would make them a little more tastier?? We may need to check with Old Guy on a '08 sounds like their may be some experience with this - I do think I would like mine a little on the "crunchy" side OMG vman1313, I thought we had problems here, no anything near what you have -- but I do like your shield with the teeth I know the napkin was a bad idea, but it was that or my shirt and there were too many for me to see out of my visor since for some reason they seem to spat right where my field of vision was. Usually my shield is cleaned with a soft lint free towel at home, I guess I just wasn't thinking about out on the road Motofool. Thank you for the idea of looking in the travel section Little Green Machine for the small travel packs. LGK I have noticed my little "dash" area on the bike, didn't know if I could put anything there without if falling out -- thanks for that little tidbit |

I had some of the chocolate grubs in a little white box. I was eating them in a waiting room when my daughters teenaged friend comes up and asks for one (he didn't know they were bugs). He said that they were pretty good and ask for a couple more and asked what kind of candy is this. I hand him 2 more, he eats one and while he is chewing, I tell him "Grub worms.... enjoy". hahahahahaha

I keep a few wetnaps in my jacket pocket at all times. Small enough to just leave 3 or 4 in there without having to worry about bringing some cleaner and a towel every time. I grab a few extra every time I'm someplace where they are complimentary.

This is good info, I have used peroxide to get blood stains out, I usually carry hand sanitizer with me, so if I get blood on me I can whip out the ol' sanitizer. One time I gave blood and I was walking out and I could feel this warmth coming down my arm (I probably just set myself up for something Jiggles would have fun with) anyway, my vein didn't have enough pressure on it and I got blood on my white jacket of all things, I love that jacket, but when I got home I threw it in the sink with some peroxide and poof it was gone.

I just deal with it and after a while don't even notice its there.
Then when I get home my dear hubby cleans my visor for me with a cleaner and paper towel. He spoils me <3 He also wears a GoPro and I always catch him on video swiping at his shield with his gloved hand. So nasty!

I always have a small bottle of plexus and a soft rag in the tankbag. A couple spritzes of plexus, and a few wipes with the rag, and the screen is clean and polished again. Once the plexus has cleaned it up, it does seem as if the next few bug splats blow off the shield pretty easily.
Good call on not just wiping it with your glove; that generally just makes things worse.
