Sold my scooter

I am going to buy a Ninja 250R for 4500 out the door come thursday or friday.

I will keep you posted. I had a Vino 125cc. Do you guys get tired of your 250r's?

I don't plan on riding on the highway much. Just short trips and mostly in town (suburban) area to go to work/ girlfriends.

Any recalls with the 2009. The fit and finish of the bike is okay I would say, I did notice the one side had plastic that popped out a little more than the other side but these are minor issues. I believe you get what you pay for but the Ninja 250R seems like a fantastic starter bike that will fit my needs quite well.

Also the other Ninja 250 sites give me grief logging in and this site works well so far.

Hope to be a full time member soon if all goes well for me.

I like the blue color a lot.

Do you guys know when the 2010 models come out, or what colors they will be? I really like white bikes.

How do you guys hook up your Navi systems on these things? should I just put it in a tank bag and tape it in there or something along those lines???

I don't need at hooked up with a charger because of only short trips. I hear the garmin mounts will cause the gps unit to go flying off. I don't want my 200 dollar gps unit getting ruined.

Not a big deal but is there a way to put a 12v power point on there like a cigarette lighter type deal?

I use sonar. It works well when it rains.

Welcome Mike, and good luck with the purchase.... though as the bikes are usually toys, (unless you don't have a car) wtih the rough economy, maybe you should rethink buying now if you don't have the money? Don't want to be anyone's mom on here, but just saying.... you even said yourself that it seemed a little odd....
as for your other question about the gps - check out the wiki and the DIY threads, or use the search button - I think you'll find much of what you seek

I wouldn't want anything like that exposed (GPS unit that is) to the elements, unless it was designed for it. Then again, I probably still wouldn't want that.

They have cheap tank bags with map mounts (attached via velcro). I'd put the GPS in there. Just be careful, because it may get rather hot, and have no airflow.

I think they make aftermarket GPS mounts that are rather sturdy. May be worth looking into.

Of course CC's sonar works better than anything else out there.

I will have a good amount of steady income after august 1st. I will have payed of a huge debt.

This scooter (I didn't erase) I mean bike, I'm still thinking (SCOOTER IN MY HEAD) this bike will be alright for me to get, I will just have to turtle up my drinking money, and spend it on gas instead.

I really do want this bike. I am only nervous about taking it home. I am actually thinking about buying it thursday and riding it home at like 10-11 at night.

Then go to work in the morning and practice real late at night on friday. I know the streets around my house very well, and I know where almost all the potholes are.

Many GPS's are designed for just that. Most Garmins, in particular are quite water resistant and will have zero issues in even the heaviest downpour. There are also plenty of solid mounts available that will never have any issues. The only mount complaint that come up pretty often on Garmins is when people use the light-duty plastic bicycle mount on a motorcycle, and the vibration breaks it very quickly. But it was never designed for that, and is being misused in the first place.

If you want to save some coin on the GPS unit type (car GPS is cheaper) and on the mounting (hard to beat $2.50 USD)... but don't mind a bit of risk

There are some really inexpensive ones out there, that's true.

First of all I love my 250 and I can't see me ever really getting rid of it, except to maybe get another 250. As far as mounting a GPS... check out www.mountguys.com for mounting anything and everything to your bike, car, boat, airplane, etc, etc. I have a Nuvi 760 on my Spyder using a clutch resevoir mount. Very solid, very sturdy. It has seen about 1500 miles since I've installed it and some rough terrain and high speeds along the way. No problems. However the Nuvi series is not really designed for motorcycle use as it is not waterproof. For motorcycle you want a Zumo... if you can afford one!!!!

Imho the dark orange color on the zx10 would be a nice 2010 addition for the 250r

Nice ! I am just sold my Yamaha Zuma 125 and bought a brand new red Ninja 250. I personally feel safer on it. For example, hitting a bump or ripple in the road doesnt send me flying off my seat like on the scooter. PLUS I can go twice as fast. No turning back now !
