Custom Petcock?
Is there an aftermarket petcock with an OFF position for the J series ninjas? I know they say gas shouldn't flow without a vac, but that's never been the case anytime I try to remove my gas tank.

We put an aftermarket petcock on our '90 Ninja Beater that doesn't have a vacuum fitting - but it's a pain.
It fits, but is a lot shorter than the original (doesn't stick down as far), so it's tucked way up under the tank. This bike doesn't have fairings, so it's kinda accessible, but with fairings I don't think you could get to it. You don't want to leave it in the ON position all the time, so it wouldn't be very handy. |

Rebuild kits and new stock petcocks are available. Mine was leaking when I got it, and I found that a size 007 Viton O-ring on the valve plunger cured it. The only way to know why it's not shutting off is to take it apart and examine it though.
