Plug and Play 4.5 rear Rim?
http://www.sportisimoto-usa.com/rims.php
Anybody seen this or have one? I'm sure there is a lot of interest, cause I sure as hell would buy one if not too expensive. Please post any info, I know the sportisi guy frequents here quite often. Specifically prices and availability |

Kosman also custom widens rims if they're still doing it. Forget exactly what it costs but it's not cheap. But yeah, looks good!

Already checked Kosman
Already peeped Kosman to widen a stock wheel, evidently they changed ownership and now charge like double what they used to. They used to charge like $350-400 ish per wheel, and i just got quoted $695 via email. I was so shocked I had to send another email asking was that for both, they said no PER WHEEL. Add that to the cost of a spare wheel and the tire and it was a lil rich for me.

I got a reply back from Sportisi Thailand. The rim is new. It does not come from another bike. Swingarm clearance is no issue, it come from the factory flat black and the cost is $300 USD!

Sorry guys it was race weekend. I need to strangle koko. Because the $300 price is my cost which was not suppose to be shared with the general public. Tack on another $150 per rim for shipping to me. 3% paypal fee plus a margin plus shipping to you. It would basically be a $580 rim delievered for it to be worth my time to bring them over

goddamn thats expensive....don't know if its worth that much, plus you gotta figure in adding the tire, like $700 bux, thats a lil rich. But we'll see, I might have to plan a trip to Thailand and come back with a tonna ish, plus a vacation.

To pay $500 for a rear tire set up the will work, is worth it IMO. With out the 4.5 rim, a 150 tire can not be used to its full capabilities. So this rim would be good for like a full time racer who wants that set up.

Haha yupp, you have a good point. Personally, I wouldn't do it. I have no need, although I do have a 150 installed. I will be going back down to a 130 my next time around.

I do not race yet....
why do I need to race to justify wanting a bigger rear wheel? I thought it was my bike, lol. I want the look, as most my mods will be farkles. I'm happy with the performance, its the same reason I put rims on my car.

Because, when you install a 150+ tire on our stock rims, the tire will be pintched, and will not be able to use the whole tire. This aftermarket rim alows you to be able to use the whole tire.

Edit: I'm not saying you cant buy a bigger tire, and you do not need this rim to do so. I just implied that this rim would serve best for an racer.

jus joking
don't take me serious...just making a point that I always hear in regards to modding a 250. It either always references racing or getting a bigger bike. There are a lots of reasons to upgrade to a bigger bike and from my standpoint even more reasons not to.
BTW I respect all opinions rather I agree or not |

Joe, I think you'll fit into ninjette just fine. Most here are quite easy to get along with, even when they don't agree. You are not the first to ask about a wider rear rim and I'm sure you won't be the last, but if you do get it done, you'll be the first on this forum to have actually have one. I think once they see the price and what is involved to fab one up by themselves, it's soon apparent that it's lot more than they are willing to go through for a cosmetic mod.
btw... nice car. post up in this thread when you get the chance. http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9815 |

It's my understanding that it is not either. If I'm not mistaken...it's a completely new rim made from cold poured aluminum.

yeahh
@KKim
I totally agree it does seem like alotta work but if someone does step up it might be worth it after all, especially since it seems like one of the most talked about mods. And to most it will be subtle enough that most would not even know it was a mod. At $600-700 bux its a lil too rich for me right now especially considering the other stuff i'm doing and that I only paid like $1800 for the bike. But we'll see. It might be one of my last mods, or coup de grace sorta say. S/N thanks for the link, I posted my pics but didn't show? |

From a racing stand point I would never run this rim. A true 150 is not needed nor wanted. A pinched 150 works well a 140 has a little bit better stability. A pinched 150 has 135mm useable tread.

Who can deny the total sexiness it provides though...?
150 to the left, stock 130 to the right... you be the judge!

I no longer keep up with racing rules and regs but I would expect that changing the rear wheel size would bump you out of any stock-ish type classes and put you on the track with bikes that are probably gonna stomp your ass

From what I understand, the new rim (w/ a BT-016) weighed against the stock rim (w/stock IRC) weigh almost the identical amount.

rotational mass jd, not weight on the scale.
it takes more power, torque, etc. to rotate a larger wheel than a smaller one - even if they tip the scale at the same weight. physics is counter-intuative...... |

Since the diameter and weight are the same the only factor from the extra width would be the extra tire tread that makes contact to the pavement. This would not be a big enough factor to notice any difference. |
