Good evening from the UK
Hi all,
First off thanks to all members who have posted good info on the ninja 250, I've read plenty on here to help make my mind up on my latest bike. After much hunting around I managed to buy an 10 reg ninja 250 without breaking lockdown (bought blind with home delivery included). It arrived this afternoon so I took it out for an essential trip, my first ride on one of these. The only faults I found are a slight chip to the front brake lever, and the petrol filler cap keeps farting.. Other than that though I'm impressed, it feels far less stressed at speed than I expected, sure it turns a few rpm when doing 60 plus but it really doesn't feel like it. Can't wait until I'm allowed out for a proper blast. I've previously ridden most sizes of road and off road bikes from 125-800ccs but over the last few years I've found I'm happiest on something light as long as it hits and holds 70mph so this 250 fits the bill. My bike before this was a Ktm Duke 200 - I'd recommend those to anyone, slightly punchier than the ninja 250 but runs out of steam at 85. Unfortunately that bike ended up splatted on the side of a blind van a few weeks ago The old duke is dead, long live the ninja. Hope you're all well and coping with the current state of the world Jamie. |

Greetings & Salutations Jamie!!!
These light bikes are so much fun! Search on here for "tank cap mod" to find solution for farting cap! |

Todays job was installing front and rear cameras. I actually bought a set of cameras for the KTM but hadn't got around to fitting them before the crash... I won't be going for a proper ride until they are fitted. I had to draw a diagram of my last bikes crash for the insurance company, I'd much rather have a video if it happens again. My drawing skills are on par with a four year old. I've gone for a permanent install with recorder stashed under the seat. If I had a helmet cam I'd forget to use it. |

Welcome! My front/rear cameras have the brain unit under the seat and hooked into tail-light power so they turn on/off with the key.

To do list / why do some people pile money into exhaust..
Well after a few days ownership I'm now a lot more familiar with my new back (be it 11 years old). The bike needs nothing to be rideable but has many niggles to make it a nicer ride.
From what I see the previous owner got it serviced regularly but a pretty poor service, nothing more than oil, plugs and filters. No lube to things such as lever and pedal pivots, clutch cable stretched to the limit etc. I don't understand why someone would bother fitting an aftermarket exhaust but not bother replacing sloppy gear shifter & bolt - things like that would sharpen the ride up much better for less expense. I'd also put money on it that valve clearances haven't been done. I'm happy to gamble and plan that in over winter, plenty of spare engines on ebay for not bad money if the bike decides not to wait that long. My upcoming little jobs list will be: New throttle cables New clutch cable New shift pedal and bolt (mine has as much side to side movement as up and down) New front brake and clutch levers plus pivot bolts (also wobbly in all axis) Jobs for winter: Valve clearances, engine is sweet but I like peice of mind Replace for seals (slight misting on left) Fluids, filters & plugs. Replace outer sleeving on the loom, a few of the exposed sections have become brittle and started to break off. One I'm undecided on: Convert to standard bars instead of clip ons. My hands don't feel right on this but I might come round to it after more riding. Its all work I'd expect to do on any bike I buy. Im not one for performance mods - much prefer spending my time putting the 'newness' back into bikes. Might see if anyone will swap me a stock can for the Scorpion slip-on currently fitted too. I make a living in predictive maintenance and condition monitoring, it rubs off on my bikes so I'll make this one perfect and run it forever. |

I’d rather ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow anyday
