Velocity Stacks in airbox/stock filter

Has anyone tried velocity stacks with the stock airbox still on their bike. I have removed the Screen in the airbox and shimmed the needles but still have the stock air filter on my 2012 Ninja 250. I have cored out a stock exhaust and it sounds great, and i am working on removing the cat from the spare header pipe i have to see if it makes a difference. I have added stacks to the airbox of my SV and it helped but with the limited HP of the 250 i am unsure if it would make any difference. So has anyone tried this and if so what were your results?

Really, no one out there has tried this? I am making a set up right now and will see what the results are and if there is any noticeable difference.

I don't know. That's my answer. Theory is shorter exhaust track is better for high rpm power. And longer track is better for torque.

I don't think the air box without the metal fire guard is that bad. Especially for street. Nothing beats open stacks for power. But filters are nessacay. Clean filter is best.

As for the header. I would not bother with the stock pipe. Get
A Yoshamara full system. The pipes are very large. Large diameter pipes will flow better and that is the primary power gain you can get on a stock engine.

If you want more airflow with the stock airbox, try a much less restrictive air filter and bigger header pipe (as suggested by Racer X), it's much easier than hacking the stock one. Also keep in mind that you more than likely will want to increase your jet size a tiny bit. Experimentation is the key.

Definitely need to rejet. Larger pilot 42 or 40 bigger main like 110 and move the needle around.

Do the intake boots even count as velocity stacks?

Thanks for the replies! I built some stacks that simply attach to the stock stacks in the box. They are almost 3 inches long. I still have the (clean) stock filter and snorkel in place but the fire guard screen has been removed. I am still planning on trying the header pipe since it is just laying around and i can weld so cutting and experimenting will be fun. I dont know if the stacks have helped any but it feels a little better down low (may just be in my head) but i do not have a DYNO. I have really tall gearing on the bike along with the opened up stock exhaust and shimmed needles. I ran against a friend with a totally stock 2009 Ninja 250 and he could not beat me and i could not beat him. He is a newer rider but weighs 40 lbs less than me. Performance does not seem to be less so i will keep experimenting!
