when I was new to ninjette I didn't know ATGATT too, googled it and found it. But I've also read about MGATT around here, what does that mean?

But no seriously, all the gear, all the time.

MTGATT: Most the gear, all the time. Hence, jacket, boots, gloves, helmet. (No safety/leather pants.

Are service boots acceptable?

I normally wear helmet, gloves, armored jacket, and a pair or black leather/textile side-zip service boots... Guess that makes me a MTGATT rider; now that I know what the two stand for. Like the OP, I had seen it mentioned, but never knew what it stood for.

I wouldnt really say so. It's all about ankle protection. I guess they're better then normal everyday shoes, but you may want to look into a pair of shoes with a little more protection. They dont have to be full boots. I own a pair of these. I've only worn them a bit around the house. Pick up the bike next week. But they're comfortable enough.

I think alpine stars came out with something similar but for 150 dollars. Seemed pretty good.

So just to clarify for those of us that don't know what ALL the gear is...me included

So we need:

Head - Helmet
Ears - Earplugs
Neck - ?
Torso - Jacket with shoulder, arms, and elbow protection
Hands - Full gauntlet gloves with wrist protection
Chest - Chest Protector
Back - Back Protector
Legs - Kevlar or Leather pants with thigh protection, knee protection, shin protection
Feet/Ankle - Full length boots with ankle protection

Did I miss anything? Is that really what ALL the gear means?

I only have a Helmet, Jacket, Gloves, and Boots and I always wear them. I want some pants and I'll get them soon but for now I ride with what I have and I always wear it. My wife has a helmet, jacket, and gloves but she doesn't have motorcycle boots. The one time I gave her a ride I made sure she did wear whatever boots she did have but she's a chick and mostly has heels and sandals

As far as I know, ATGATT means:
helmet
jacket
gloves
kevlar/leather pants
boots

This way, every part of your body is being protected against rash. the back protector is a little over the top. So is the knights harness. I like the girls outfit though

No matter how much gear you get, there will always be somebody tell you you're going to die if you don't wear [insert expensive item here] all the time. I wear a helmet, jacket and gloves and sometimes racing pants. Only the gloves are leather. My helmet is good enough that I don't need earplugs.

Whatever you decide to get, only get stuff you will actually wear. Don't buy stuff that you find so uncomfortable that it stays in your closet.

As a side note, always remember that ATGATT does not make you invincible. And to point this out, I refer to two recent threads where two bikers got run over by a car. The kid in NY was wearing a helmet and was killed. The kid in Utah was without a helmet and survived. There were other factors, but ATGATT doesn't guarantee anything.

ATGATT - at least you have something. Road rash is painful and disgusting - imagine having pus all over the affected area. The stench of that amount is just unbelievable. The kid in Utah just got lucky. I'm sure if u asked him what he would different after he had survived an accident in that magnitude is that he'd take MSF Course & MGATT/ATGATT b4 and during each ride and be more aware of the road conditions. My guess.
Wearing the gear is just a no brainer - IMH yet accurate opinion. Its a responsibility we riders carry in our shoudler for the sake of our love ones (mom, dad, bros, sis, friends).
A friend of ours here in the forum's from TX and even in summer he's in full gear. just add more maturity with this sport.

Be safe out there my friends.
