Tire life?

I know that I have recently seen a thread somewhere about when you know it's time to change your tire - it showed the wear patterns and everything... the hubby and I were talking about the tires today, and I mentioned it to him, and for the life of me I can't find it with the terms I'm using to search.... anyone know what I'm talking about, or was I imagining it?
