Exhaust/JetKit ?

Hello to all!

I just got my AreaP and my JetKit on Friday. I have read through all of the DIY/FAQ and this install seems fairly straight forward. I am not the most technical savvy when it comes to engines but I do most work on my Camaro < (Yes I am another Camaro owner with a 250 hehe) Anyways I was wondering if you guys think this is something that I can attempt to do myself.

Also I have read something about syncing the carbs? Is that something you have to do after jetting?

Thanks for any help/advice you wise people can offer

Hi Dan!

I have also got an AreaP exhaust and Jetkit. I have installed the exhaust, it is really easy, just be sure to follow the DYI and torque the nuts/bolts to the specs mentioned in the DIY and all should be fine. the AreaP headers are a very close fit

I have not installed the jetkit as yet (no time due to SWMBO ), but I have had the carbs out and it is not as daunting as it looks. You will be fine as long as you take your time and note what you do (I do this with pictures)

What type of K&N filter is it? Pod, or just a slip in replacement for the existing one?

It will be a straight swap then, obviously jet settings will need to be different to the stock filter, but that is what the jetkit is for

have a look at the jetting database to see what others using DJ kits have used. http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10208

be sure to add your info once you get yours in and tested.

OMG it was a nightmare. I am still not done... lol. I worked for as long as I could then got cold as ballz. Decided to hang it up and go again tomorrow. Here is what I got done and I have a few questions if anyone can help....

I got the exhaust put on. That was fairly simple....

I got the bike apart as in the DIY and got the carb out. I did it a little differently but It worked all the same. I did get the new needles in... With the C clamp on the 3rd notch and the 2 washers on top. < that part was a bitch. (Question 1 will be about this...) I did not get the jets put in as I need to find a better screw driver, as mine will not fit in the damn hole...

(Please excuse my lack of terminology)
Ok question 1: On the top side of the carbs. There is a diaphragm that you take out to put the needle in. It has 2 holes. A big one (needle) and a little one (dunno wtf its for). I did not look and see which way these go back in. lol do the little holes go up or down or will it only fit one way?

2. Also the DynoJet manual says to use 098... Is that correct?

Again apologies for my noobish lack or terminology.. I is a computer guy and am doing this for the first time...

(At any rate I covered her up and hung it up for the night.) Thanks for all the help

1. the slides can only go in one way. I was afraid I had installed mine backward myself when I first did mine and I had to ask the very same question.

2. yes, use the DJ 98 jet. DJ uses their own numbering system and it is actually richer than the stock Keihin 98. With the K&N and pulling the snorkel, you'll be fine as they will allow you more air to compensate for the now larger DJ 98 main jet.

3. yes, it is a PITA to rejet the carbs, but soooo worth it.
some pictures I took of mine when I did it, if you are interested. http://picasaweb.google.com/kkim993/AirboxAndRejet#

it's not that bad.. just figure out one hose at a time. that's the reason I take a lot of pictures before I tear stuff apart. also, a factory service manual is mandatory.

If your owner's manual is your guide, the service manual is your bible.

only if the work you did causes problems in the area that failed. The bike won't pass emissions controls if your state has them, though.

Yeah a service manual is handy. It is nice to see an exploded view of what your working on when you get stuck. So hopefully you have one.

Omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This NOOB did not break his bike!!! She is running and sounding good!!!

I just have 1 question.. I am not sure if this is normal or not..... When I crank her up (it is cold here so I have to apply some choke. I wait for it to get warmed up before I start revving. When I revved it up a bit to about 5k i noticed that it took longer for it to come down back to idle..... Is this normal with the kit or do I need to adjust something??

Thank for all your help!!! Could not have done it without the guys on this site!!

Coming back down slower is not normal. Bike should act pretty much the same as before the jetting in this regard.

Is the bike completely warmed up when you are noticing this? Have you test ridden the bike and does it act the same when riding?

then adjust the idle with the idle adjustment knob.

I set mine to 1500 cause it's just easier to read it to get it right on.

edit- you sure you have all the hoses hooked back up correctly?

Dan/Kelly,

Sticks in my mind there is a thread with this type of issue and the long fall off to idle was a sign of being to rich (?)

Will do. I am going to go get one of those screw drivers and adjust the idle mixture screws. That seems like the problem. It runs fine other than the idle issue and the slow to come down to idle.
