2008 Ninja 205R shifter position

So, after changing my sprocket and chain, I have my bike in nice working order. However, the shifter seems a bit too high (too much clearance between my foot and the shifter). I am a relatively new rider and want to know is this normal, or should I lower the shifter (if it is possible)?

The linkage that connects the shift lever with the short arm on the shift shaft is adjustable. If you loosen the two lock nuts, turning the rod will effectively lengthen or shorten it because the one on the shift shaft end is left handed. Remember that when loosening the front lock nut too... it's a left hand thread.

If it doesn't seem like you have enough adjustment range, you may have to take off the short lever on the shift shaft and rotate it a notch on the splines.
