Dumb bicyclist move!

While riding my bike (Ninja 250 variety) this morning, I decided to check a shortcut that I discovered thru one of the neighborhoods. When I turned onto the road, I immediately noticed lots of loose gravel on my side and taking roughly 4-6 feet of my lane. At that point I made the decision that there will be NO sharp turns or staying close to the speed limit on this "shortcut".

As I continued curving to the left, I noticed a side street on my right with a stop sign for that street. I see a bicyclist on the side street and we make eye contact. He ignores the stop sign and proceeds to cross directly in front of me and make the left hand turn. I didn't think he would be that stupid, but I was prepared in case he was. I pulled a "rolling" stop with my rear brake and slowed just enough to give him room.

For the next few minutes, I just couldn't get the guy out of my mind. I kept thinking, if I had been in a car, would he still have run the stop sign? I know he saw me, but did he really see me?

Yeah, he saw you, and expected you to stop or slow for him, just as he would have a car. Too many people on bicycles assume that they don't have to follow the traffic laws, and that they ALWAYS have right of way......wrong on both counts.

We have some good bike groups around here for sure, but it is just like motorcycles, it just takes a few. Some ride in packs 4 across. Under the limit about 20 mph. Hello, this is not Europe people, it is WA State. We will toss our animal beer 6 pack at ya if ya don't ride single file. Geez it is like trying to pass a herd of puppies and they have no idea how scary it is for us to try to safely get by.. for those who know how to ride in groups safely ..THANK YOU

I am a bicyclist who rides 15 to 20 miles a day. I always stop for stop signs, lights, etc. I also signal for all my turns. I have also never had a problem with other motorists--two wheeled or four. I also wear the most garish Hi-Vis jerseys imaginable.

That's great! Unfortunately your good example is very much in the minority where I live...

If I'm in my Jeep or on the Ninja I've yet to see a bike obey any traffic signal/sign, not drive on a sidewalk or footpath, not go up a one way the wrong way, yield to anything.... yet you dare hit them who would get the ticket hmmmmmmmm.... everyone but them
