Lazy owner or scam?
Saw this on craigslist. bike is for sale in town i work in. sounds like carbs are gummed up from gas in them over the winter. Sounds fishy to me as local dealer would pick it up for about $50 and a couple hours labor to clean the carbs. Might go check it out:
2008 Black Kawasaki Ninja 250 - $2500 (west warwick) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reply to: sale-ryjkx-1235871089@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] Date: 2009-06-23, 2:08PM EDT Hi All, I am selling my bike which has just over 1000 miles on it. Only used for 1 and a half seasons. The reason why i am selling for only $2500 is because it needs a system flush. The bike is in immaculate condition otherwise. No marks, no problems, etc Starts fine, but dies out when throttled due to it being clogged. I have no way to transport the bike on my own and have given up riding after realizing its just not for me. Take it off my hands, just realize that $2500 is firm on the price. The going rate seems to be about $3000+(bluebook is $2700, feel free to check) for the 08, and $3800 for the 09 provided you can even find one. Im aware that a system flush does not cost anywhere near $500, however id rather not deal with the hassle of trying to transport it etc. Profit off my laziness. Shoot me an email with your name and number and i will call you back, or send you pictures etc. Location: west warwick it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests PostingID: 1235871089 |

It's easy enough to find out. Email him and get his phone number and address and ask him to see the bike.
If he want money wired to him or wont give an address or phone number, then it's a scam. Based on the above post, it's difficult to assess because there are people that are rich and lazy...or just lazy. And the price isn't ridiculously low, either. Also, be ware that there may be a serious mechanical problem. Be sure to get it checked out to make sure you're not getting a lemon.

i would just buy it with clean title and a test ride. thought 2500 wasnt that much compared to some around here who try to get back to msrp a year later.

What the heck does he mean by a "system flush"? I've never before heard anyone use that phrase with regard to motorcycles...

Go look at the bike. Those deals come up occasionally. I grabbed a nice 4 year old bike for $900 because it had a bad clutch and a dead battery.
I brought over a good battery and fired the bike up. I turned the clutch adjuster and the clutch was fixed in 10 seconds. I got a great bike for $900.

2500 for an 08 is reasonable.
It's not that low. It's only 200 below kbb. The reason why scam comes into your mind is because people have been selling at or over MSRP due to high demand and when you found one this cheap you automatically think it's a scam. I told myself that I would not pay more than 3000 for an 08 250 but I ended up paying 3200. When demand is high and supply is low there's always a premimum. Go check it out. I don't know much about mechanical stuff but let just say 200 to fix the problem. 2500+200=2700=kbb which is what we all should be paying for our bikes. Good Luck. |

So have you checked the bike out? I might have to take a little drive out there myself.
