My gas gauge quit working !

I went out to the 2012 250R Ninja and fired it up the other night and noticed right away I was out of gas and the fuel warning light was on....
this gave me no little scare as I had repaired the vacume petcock a few months back ! I thought "oh no the crank is probably full of gas !"
but upon checking the oil level it was right where it should be.... i thought Hummmm !
....
the Ninja started in her usual way full choke and it fired right up and idled slow
and slowly picked up BOTH cylinders and gained RPM to about 3k RPM and I thin backed off the choke at which time it dropped down to around 800 RPM
a bit slow but when she is warm it idles around 1000 rpm.
all this time the out of fuel warning light was on and gas gauge reads zero
..... I checked the gas tank and it's got about 1/2 to 3/4 of a tank of gas
so either the wires to the sending unit got disconnected or a fuze blew or something.... it worked great when I parked it a month or so ago !!! ....
but I do have cats and they do crawl around and through things I suppose they could well have pulled the wire off the tank !
....I got it in the shop now so I will probably start tearing it down again !
.....
Bob

Just sticky level-sender from sitting. Go ride it andnit should free up in 10-20miles. Put some PEA-based fuel-system cleaner in.

Not stabilizer, PEA-based cleaner. Chemical reactions are different.

An update on the gas gauge.... I sloshed the gas around in the gas tank about 2 or 3 minutes worth.... just bouncing the bike back and forth between my legs
and gave it a real good shake.... turned on the key and the gas gauge worked again..... I did that before a few times but nothing happened so this time I did it real good and it finally broke it loose.....so...
it works just fine again, and all I had to do was shake it ! HAHAHAH !
....

I've found level-sender mechanism can get bound-up. In one instance I was taking tank off to remove sender from bottom. It heard me!!! Freed itself up as soon as I removed tank!!!

LOL Sounds about right !
typical mechanical doohicky ! take it apart to fix it and it starts working again in the proccess ! HAHAHAHA
I wish I could say that's never happened to me but I can't !
one time I was taking a box fan apart to see if I could get it working again
I had one side off and the other side still on and even though it was spinning ok I decided to give it a shot of WD-40 ...and just for S&G's i plugged it in and the darn thing started working ! i figure it must'a been the switch ! LOL

....
