Need help getting rear brake caliper back on ASAP!

I've tried coming at this thing from all angles and can't get it to line back up right.I have the pistons pushed in as far as they can go and the pads separated as much as they can be, am I missing something? This is getting pretty frustrating lol.

Here are some pics

I find the best bet is to have a helper hold it in place while I guide the wheel into place. keep the spacers in the seals on the wheel and don't try to get the chain on till it is all inline and the spacer lips are hitting the swingarm and the cal carrier. A foot under the wheel can help lift/drop it into place.

When you have a single pieton acting on 2 brake pads the caliper has to slide back and forth as well as the piston moving in and out. It appears that the slide pins for the caliper are stuck . Take them out clean them and reinstall with some synthetic grease. The pins I am refering to are not the same ones that hold the pads in.

Where are these pins located on the caliper? I know it's hard without actually having it in your hand but the simplest explanation would even help.

The two mounting holes to get it bolted back to the swing arm.

IIRC there is a little spring pressure to hold the pads in tension, you need to press firmly on the pads against the spring clip to get them in place. Is that what you r asking?

You have the caliper holder that bolts to the swing arm. The caliper is then held to the braket with 2 slide pins. Thei are protected by rubber boots. In your picture they are in the lower photo and the lowest part of the caliper that is visible.

Okay, I thought that's what you were referring to, I might need to have my dad help me get that apart though because I can't seem to persuade that thing to loosen.

Those pins need to slide freely or your brakes will drag and wear one pad more than the other. Withe the setup off the bike you should be able to slide the caliper back and forth on the pins real easy.

Yes you are correct and the one at the top of the picture. I have had to use heat to get these freed up in the past. Good luck, hope it works out.

Whatever you do, William, keep those pads free of finger prints, brake cleaner or anything else that could contaminate the surface.

It is good idea to sand and clean the disk a little if the pads are new.

Don't force those pins or the rubber boots, ATF is your friend for loosen those up.

Thanks for the tips, i'll keep you guys updated once my dad gets home. He knows where everything is in this mess of a garage. Was hard enough to find what I needed to get this far. What's weird is idk how it could have gotten like that, I never had any braking problem in the rear until the pads were worn down obviously, but I don't know what the previous owner did before I got the bike even though it only had 2.2k miles the rear pads were worn down AT LEAST half way when i purchased the bike.

ATF will work good to loosen them up but petroleum products will eventually turn the rubber to goo and make them stick. Once loosened and cleaned with brake clean use a product, available at most parts stores, with the words " synthetic brake and caliper grease " its designed specifically for this.

the store will usually include a packet of it for free when you buy pads... or if you buy your brake pads in bulk like i did, they send you a tube of it

Reinstalling can be made a little easier if you remove the wheel, properly mount the caliper first then reverse the axle. By putting the axle in from the opposite side, the caliper is held in place on the axle while installing the wheel. http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showp...92&postcount=4

Were the pistons cleaned all around before being pushed all the way back.

That is important because the accumulated grime will damage the seals.

This article shows how to grab the pistons, rotate and clean them:

Kudos to your dad

Check that the reservoir has not overflown (due to the pistons being pushed back), dripping brake fluid over painted parts.
